Belgocontrol tweets all back to normal at Antwerp airport.

light to Nador will leave at 1730 Utc+1, airport open again, Antwerp airport announced.
As per ANR's website ,returning Nador flight will still come into ANR today (ETA23.55). I.e. after normal curfew.
So,the airport will exceptionally stay open longer then?

I happended to be near the airport this afternoon just after closing of the airport 'perimeter' by the police.
Quite an impressive deployment of Red cross,Police,Dovo,even Civil Protection. Counted at least
15 ambulances standing by , coming from allover the province of Antwerp . The BRC even set up a complete tent. I understood the 'Medical evacuation plan' was put in motion.

The Nador flight eventually left at around 17.40 after another full 'check bagage' at the outside of the plane.
(of some 90 passengers)

Grtz.

Info on Antwerp-Airport.be:

Opening hours: Every day from 06.30 till 23.00 local time. Extension possible if=
- the airport management has given its consent;
- the staff present is paid in the sum of 750.00 Euro per hour or per started hour (excl. VAT);
- a written request submitted at 12.00 the previous day at the latest.

(that last requirement wasn't possible thoughà

Apparently "bomb alert" at a luggage scanner. Full alert at the airport...
Edit : aircraft is OO-JEB (not OO-JEM).

This has happened before on several occasions for the Jetair/TUI flights, but most of the time, it was less than half an hour 'overtime'.

In fact the current rate is 1500€/hour, for ATC, Fire Brigade, Airport Inspection, Airport security, and for a non-EU flight Custom & Imigration, which quickly gets you to 10+ persons & equipment. But delayed scheduled flights are exempted from this fee.

For those who like to point to the "massive cancellations" on transatlantic flights during this low season: Brussels Airlines' SN-501 to JFK from next Tuesday (7 Febr) is not cancelled. It's just "not operational". So no stranded passengers - unless someone whows up without a confirmed booking.

And flying more or less 50 intercontinental flights a year...I know the difference between " cancel " and " no flight ". :D :D

Not that it matters that much, but some say that burst tyres were the reason for the aborted take off, and others say that the tyres only bursted after take off roll was aborted:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/ ... -1.3968073
"sustained damage to its wheels while preparing to depart from Brussels Airport".

https://www.aviation24.be/airports/brussel ... s-airport/
"...This morning AC833 rejected its take-off while building up speed on runway 07R. During the rejected take-off a tire was burst on the right hand side..."

http://avherald.com/h?article=4a48146a&opt=0
"... was accelerating for takeoff when the crew rejected takeoff at high speed (about 90 knots over ground). The aircraft slowed safely and vacated the runway before becoming disabled after a number of right hand main tyres deflated. The reason for the rejected takeoff is unknown. The airline reported the aircraft sustained damage to its wheels when it rejected takeoff..."
