What's wrong with this airport that has a fabulous potential and is normally efficient. We did not have dante weather conditions (-1 in Uccle) and SN canceled 2 or 3 long haul and a lot of delays of nearly 4 to 5 hours for everyone! Luckily Brussels is not Anchorage! ;) can someone give some explanations...
It's not the fact that it was "only -1°C"....

Freezing rain can be much worse than snow. The braking action was poor on 25L, then on 25R as well. You just can't take off or land with such a braking action.

Everything was extremely slippery on the airport today.

BruFly wrote:All the SN Africa flights have been delayed for 6 hours or more because their handler didn't have enough de-icing capacity to de-ice all their flights. Due to this delay some African flights have already been cancelled as crews ran out of duty time. Other flights of this handler in the morning and afternoon have been delayed for 2-6 hours due to capacity problems. That's why TG and HU have been delayed with 4,5 and 5 hours respectively. Also smaller aircraft or operators like Ryanair suffer from these problems.
This handler ??? I suppose it's SWISSPORT no ? Yes SWISSPORT management discovered the situation around 10.3O AM this morning. Incredible !
I really wonder why SN can accept this situation. They have a contract with Swissport who cannot assume it ! Second time in a week I say that. The only one who react is FR...
And I didn't speak about LH
Someone knows how much it will cost for SN ?
And BRU accept being an airport of third world with all respect I can have for the third world !

Be carefull BRU management...maybe tomorrow it could be -2. I suppose BRU will close !

All SN long haul operations have 3 or 4 hours delays. SN 2713 to Geneva more than 5.
De icing problems ?

I guess there must be something other than snow to clear on runway !! :-)

Oups !
I am sorry. I did not think that this situation could be considered as requiring no comments or remarks or could be normal here in BRU. Thousand excuses...

Sure, but me thinks that blaming them just one time is enough.

By the way, Frank Duboccage, weather service VTM, already admitted that their weather forecast supplier miscalculated the temperatures: their computer predicted 3°C too much. The difference between prepare for a bit of snow and prepare for icy conditions.

Yes ! True... you never blamed FR two times ! But I stop ! I'm sarcastic !

Ok for VTM. we can say " amateurisme " !

Tomorrow will be an other day.

Hope BRU will be prepared and will take some info from RTL, VRT or Ring TV!
I do not know why but I'm not sure it will be a pleasant day for some intercontinental passengers ...arriving, departing or connecting. Good luck !

Hello

SN501/07JAN BRUJFK is diverting to YUL due to weather JFK. As flight already had a huge delay ex BRU because of terrible handling Swissport BRU crew is now out of duty. Pax and crew will sleep on YUL and continue to JFK tomorrow. SN502/07JAN is cancelled.

Information not confirmed by SN, but this is what I can hear from airport staff in JFK.

07th Jan 2017: A United Boeing 767-300ER performing flight UA-972 from Chicago O'Hare to Brussels was enroute at FL330 about 60nm northwest of Goose Bay (Canada) when the crew decided to return to Chicago due to the failure of the anti-ice systems on the right hand engine.

An ASL Airlines Belgium Boeing 737-400 from Bologna to Liege was on approach to LGG runway 23L when the crew went around from about 1000 feet due to an unsafe gear indication.

Probably a first go-around because of the snow?

I had posted the wrong photo yesterday: it was D-ALEO that did a go-around last night:

Edit: Audio: "go-around, we were not established".

On 1st Jan 2017, Belgium had a near collision at FL210/FL220 between an Egyptair A300 Cargo climbing from Ostend to Cairo and an Air France A320 from Paris CDG to Amsterdam.

New problem with the SN Airbus A330 fleet. The flight back from Entebbe and Kigali is canceled ! Consequences : the flight to New-York is canceled too. Flying SN long haul is not really easy !

Ryanair FR-1387 (737-800 EI-FIH) Porto-Charleroi diverted to Nantes around 11h this morning. The aircraft took off again as FR-138 some 50 minutes after landing at NTE, so probably medical diversion or dropping off an unruly passenger.

Strange: it seems that passengers from SAS SK-7486 Las Palmas-Molde (LPA-MOL) had to change aircraft in Brussels: LPA-BRU was LN-RRF, BRU-MOL was LN-RRE:

And if you believe hln.be, at least their article heading, the aircraft was cracking up. Someone should really tell them to put everything in the right proportion and no to create useless sensation or even panic to people with no or limited flying knowledge/experience.
Also article on gva.be, less sensational title and just telling the facts. So, it is possible.

Het vliegtuig, dat volgens Messelier ook zanger Sergio Quisquater onder de passagiers telde, bleef pogingen doen om hoogte te winnen, maar moest telkens weer dalen.

I think "Michéle Messelier" was just seeking more attention than needed, too bad the press don't take the effort to check some basic facts...
