My thoughts are with the Turks...
Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
And they fly again this is way more effective than Belgium...
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
Quote from CNN: the attack seems to have been focused on the queues at the pre-check.
There you have it b-west and flanker. What everyone has been saying since the start of the pre-check ar BRU. Its useless and does not protect the general public at all. Hence, the only thing the unions wanted was to protect themselves!

Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
IST is quite a much bigger airport compared to BRU so they have room to move flights to other parts of the airport, also compared to BRU only 1 bomb detonated inside thus damage compared to BRU is more limited.lumumba wrote:And they fly again this is way more effective than Belgium...
In BRU virtually the complete departure level was destroyed thus limiting the possibilities for a quick restart.

Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
Another blow to the Turkish tourism industry.
Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
Thoughts are with the innocent victims, and for those innocent victims that might fall in future attacks. Thoughts with the 200,000 plus innocent victims that fell in Syria the last 6 years.. Many of whom murdered by terrorists from all around the world. Many of those terrorists transited through IST on their way to Syria. The monster has finally bit the had that has fed it for years. Again all sympathy for the innocent victims, and may it be a lesson to those who create and use monsters in their proxy wars. Our government and the EU MUST start holding countries (mostly our allies) accountable for supporting and financing terror. Mainly S.ARABIA and QATAR.
Again, pre checks are useless, and more dangerous. In BRU specifically the crowd of people waiting for loved ones under that dark bridge outside arrival is very scary. I hope that authorities will rethink the whole BRU post 22/3 disaster and come up with more discrete and more effective security.

Re: Breaking: IST airport terrorist attack
You can blame BRU a few times, but constantly "bashing" the airport isn't going to help.lumumba wrote:And they fly again this is way more effective than Belgium...
We understand that you don't like BRU and their pre-check, neither do we, but we don't have to hear that every single time in a different thread.

Press release IATA:
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) expressed outrage at last night’s attack at Atatürk Airport Istanbul, Turkey.
"Once again, innocent travelers have been attacked in a cowardly and murderous act. Our thoughts are with the victims, and their families and friends," said Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO.
"Air transport brings people together and facilitates both social and economic development. Istanbul has a particularly significant and historical role in connecting East and West. Last night's attack was a broad attack on our shared humanity. But terrorism will never succeed in reversing the interconnectedness of the world. The desire of the human spirit to explore and trade will always triumph over suspicion and fear. That Istanbul airport is operating today is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Turkish people and the aviation industry. We stand together in solidarity-confident that we will emerge stronger and more united in our resolve to keep connecting our world," said Tyler.
"The safety and security of passengers are our top priorities. This tragedy in Istanbul and the one in Brussels earlier this year show that there is a growing challenge for governments to keep people safe in the 'landside' parts of the airport. Moving people 'airside' more quickly can help to mitigate risk. The industry has a number of initiatives in place to achieve that aim and we are working with governments and airports to implement them," said Tyler.
