Clearly very conditional : without the lenghtening of the runway its impossible.
But they are working on it

Maybe we can continue the fact that Inquirer brought up = taxpayers money should only be used as for long term investments. Not to allow a handfull of people to realize their dreams. Not to buy a rescue vessel in case the ship breaks up.

Every business holds a risk, and I'm absolutely sure Terzakis and Sumchenko had a solid business plan when they've set up sa/nv Air Belgium, back in February 2016. However, they now have to accept that the Belgian CAA strongly disagrees with their business plan.

"taxpayers money" = SFPI and SRWI - Société fédérale de participations et d’investissement (SFPI) and Société régionale wallonne d’investissement. In Dutch: Federale Participatie- en Investeringsmaatschappij and Gewestelijke Investeringsmaatschappij voor Wallonië).
In such scenario, SN Brussels Airlines and thud Brussels Airlines would have never excisted

"Short term" and "extend the runway" is definitely not compatible...

Its not compatible if Charleroi stick to the initial plan, wich was a complete runway reconstruction (like 25L 2 years ago) + extension + new lights + new drainage. And most probably working only at night in order to keep the airport open.

But if you need urgently a couple hundreds meters of runway, it can be done quickly. With the will, money and right building company, 15 days.

Other problem is that as a public contract, you loose a lot of time just to determine wich company win the contract.

On Planespotters.net, it says that the delivery of the first A340, of which the registration isn't known yet, is "due".

I don't know if you're in that kind of business, but it's not just about a couple hundred meters of runway...
Especially if you need a longer runway to land (not only a displaced threshold for t/o).
there are all sorts of safety cases to be done, concerns about lighting, about landing systems.
AIP publications are only every month if I remember well...
I'm not familiar with building roads, but I'm not sure it's that easy in wintertime...
And how long do they have each night between the last and the first flight.
I wouldn't count to much on a short term extension of the runway in my business plan... I wish I'm wrong but let's be realistic..

This is probably where you are wrong. Yes its only a couple of hundred meters.
And a turning pad.
No you don't need longer landing distance.
And if you take off only in day light, you don't need light. Just a bit of paint.
The limitations of the A340 are on Take off distance.
Below MLW you can make touch and go in Charleroi with an A340.

Then you ensure you have a take off alternate, like in low visibility situations

And what about fog, rain etc... ?
I mean putting all your business at risk considering departing only with daylight and without fog, or rain seems to me (and to any professional) really amateur...
Furthermore, do you have any idea on the impact on the runway occupancy time with an A340 having to backtrack, make a 180 and depart on an AD with a single rwy, it's huge...
and that's only what I can think about in 1 minute....

OK, let's start an airline...
Ow, just a detail.. your aircraft can only depart during daytime, and only when there's no fog, snow, or heavy rain.
sounds good, no ?

Brings back memories... we actually filmed those training flights on the A340-200 of Sabena in the late 90s but I think they were in LGG now I don't remember... maybe it was CRL, Here the video
