Veli Yüksel (CD&V) now condemning the strike, even though he earlier said on Twitter to "understand the concerns of ATC staff, although the timing of their action is somewhat unfortunate". He didn't take long to change his tune.

Very hard words here on twitter.Freken wrote:There will only be 30! movements from the airport in 4 hours. Unacceptable..

Is this deliberate to have agreement very fast as there must be a lot of lobbying going on.
Re: Breaking: Belgocontrol air traffic control strike (22 april 2016)
A friend of mine is currently one of the few working at Belgocontrol... He is not happy with this strike, so, do blame all Belgocontrol employees but well some/all unions which really deserve more than shame.
Complete absence of decency from those unions in these hard times

Re: Breaking: Belgocontrol air traffic control strike (22 april 2016)
Agreed! This service is too important for our economy to be left to the whims of lunatics! If they don't do the job, bring in the military.Freken wrote:“This action by air traffic controllers is a kick in the teeth for all the airline and airport staff who have worked so hard to reconnect Brussels to the world after the appalling terrorist attack just three weeks ago. It is the height of irresponsibility to cut a vital service and doing so without warning can only be seen as malicious.
If we cannot count on simple human decency from such highly-compensated professionals then it’s time for governments to find ways to guarantee the availability of air traffic control services,” said Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO.
Couldn't say it better, kick these idiots out and hire some competent people that are willing to perform. More than enough out there.

Re: Breaking: Belgocontrol air traffic control strike (22 april 2016)
They just had 10 days of paid holidays without passenger flights from Brussels and now they are on strike !
Disgusting behaviour, I have no other words for such people, they should be ashamed of themselves.

This is indeed low. It's not up to you, Jetter, to openly share someones personal page. I wonder what the gain is of such action...?YYZ727 wrote:Pointing out is one thing, but the tone of your post and the mentioning of someones personal facebook page has very little or no news value and smells of pillory....Jetter wrote:
I'm not out to pillory someone at all, just pointing out who is responsible for these sickening actions. She is the chairwoman, so it's her own choice to be a public figure and to be seen as main figure of the GBATC. Therefore it's fair game to point out who she is.
On topic, I wonder why some people think they can still evade a higher pension age. Yes, I understand ATC might be a difficult job but they are evenly payed for it, no...?

In a polite way? Are you really that naive? If that lady chooses to openly express herself on the media it's her choice but she didn't ask you to give up her facebook page to anyone...Jetter wrote:It has little news value but it does make it possible for people working at BRU who might lose their job because of her actions to make that known to her in a polite way. What do you want them to do? Calling in sick is not exactly illegal... You would fire them for it? Good luck with the law suits coming up...Passenger wrote:The Belgian government won't do anything against this scandal: Alexander De Croo (VLD) told VTM he "regrets" the strike.
On the longer term the only solution might be to close Belgocontrol and replace it by military ATC. But I don't know if it's even possible legally...

Her FB page can be found by anyone in 2 minutes. She has the option to hide entirely hide it from FB's search but chooses not to. Anyway, FB pages may be "private spaces" but are well used by recruiters, journalists, security agencies, etc. for a whole bunch of purposes. Is it really so outrageous for frustrated passengers to find her and express their outrage at the situation?Conti764 wrote:YYZ727 wrote: In a polite way? Are you really that naive? I'm only saying I find it wrong for someone to openly publish the facebookpage of someone else... If person x or y looks her up via facebook and says whatever he or she wants, it's up to them. But it's not up to Jetter or anyone else to spread her page. Just my two cents...flymd11 wrote:It's about time air traffic controllers were replaced by computers. Th

A wildcat strike is illegal. This gives ample ammunition for a serious government to act. Like Ronald Reagan did in the U.S.Passenger wrote:The Belgian government won't do anything against this scandal: Alexander De Croo (VLD) told VTM he "regrets" the strike.

And I didn't ask her guild to call on people to fake illness. Being a public figure by your own choice does have a bearing on your expectation of privacy. Besides that she isn't only a public figure by her own choice, but she chose to have a public Facebook as well. If you choose to have a public profile you can't claim an expectation of privacy regarding said profile anyway.Conti764 wrote:If that lady chooses to openly express herself on the media it's her choice but she didn't ask you to give up her facebook page to anyone...

If something looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. Are we all mislead here? Are we all wrong that it is a strike? No, let us remain serious please: this is a strike. Reason, as explained by a delegate of one of the two unions on VRT (19h00 news): we want additional compensation in exchange for the pension age. We were negociating additional days off and other compensation, but negociations failed...Conti764 wrote:Calling in sick is not exactly illegal... You would fire them for it? The government should at least have condemned the strike, given the dramatic circumstances for Brussels Airport. The government (Jacqueline Galant, Mobility) should have set up an urgent meeting for 19h00 tonight. Not "an invitation for continued negociations tomorrow", as the VRT stated.

Solution? They should work longer without compensation like EVERYONE else. They are not the only people that need to concentrate during the job. I fully agree, but right now some people should be in a room negotiating throughout the night. Anything less is not acceptable.sean1982 wrote:Solution?
