Hmmm because the 787 can't handle hot temperatures...? Or Norwegian's commercial department can't take the heat there perhaps!

Norwegian started expansion of its Barcelona El Prat base, with four aircraft to join its existing five, increasing connectivity with European and intercontinental destinations.

Very ambitious airline!

The European Commission formally pushed to arbitration its concerns over the US failure to approve Norwegian Air International application for a foreign air carrier permit.

Very nice from the EU to help a non-EU airline!

They are an EU airline as their subsidiairies are based in Sweden and Ireland. They will operate those flights under their subsidiairy brands.

And apparently the EU Commission was successful: the US government approves Norwegian Air International's request for foreign carrier permit after 3 years of waiting...

Norwegian Air International is the Irish subsidiary of the Norwegian LCC and it may now start flights between Ireland and the US.

First route (by B737-800): Cork-Boston?

US airline labor groups look to Trump to overturn NAI decision

Labor representatives of US airline workers reacted harshly to the US government’s approval of Norwegian Air International’s (NAI) foreign carrier permit, and indicated they will press US President-elect Donald Trump to reverse the decision when he takes office Jan. 20, 2017.

Meanwhile, NAI parent Norwegian Group announced it will open two additional pilot crew bases in the US next year.

The new pilot crew bases will bring to three the total number of pilot bases Norwegian initially plans to have in the US in 2017. http://atwonline.com/open-skies/us-airl ... ecisionIts first pilot base will be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Norwegian also plans to open two new cabin crew bases in the US next year in addition to its existing cabin crew base at New York JFK.

The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the largest US pilot union, blasted the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for approving low-cost carrier (LCC) NAI’s foreign carrier permit, which will allow NAI to begin transatlantic services between Ireland and the US, and indicated it will appeal to the incoming Trump administration to overturn the decision.
