2016 Ostend-Bruges airport (OST/EBOS) latest news

Post by ostair »

It seems that Skytanking Ostend NV is seeking protection from its creditors(court of Ghent, district Brughes).
The company employs 12 people many of them who have been working for Merlin airtrade in the past.

Bad news for the staff if they go bankrupt but good news for the airport.
Mr Buelens would now be able to negociate with new candidates to get the fuel cheaper on to the aircrafts visiting the airport.

Big change at EBOS on the table.

The securitylanes will be expanded, including a fast lane.

The airport parking will be expanded by 550 carspaces by the summer of 2016.
This would mean that the airport will offer space for 1320 cars at a rate of 8 Euro a day or 2 Euro a hour.

EGIS is in negociations with IDF to build a tax free shop at EBOS. They hope that the shop will be operational this summer.
The shop will also include a sandwich counter for a fast meal.

The current Belair restaurant will have a 300.000 Euro make over.

At the other side of the current terminal EGIS is hoping to find a partner for a new small terminal capable of VIP guests and groups such as soccer teams.

As mentioned before Skytanking Oostende has financial problems.

EBOS is one of the most expensive airports in Europe to deliver fuel to the planes.
This has caused the problems at Skytanking as many airfreight companies didn't want to fuel at EBOS or just moved somewhere else.

Now the company is trying to gain more profit by raising their tariffs by 400% in a hope to pay off their creditors.

Strange idea.

One would think to lower the prices to attract more customers instead of increasing the prices to scare off your existing customers.

Skytanking Oostende is strangling the airport at this moment.

What are the options here ,now, or when Skytanking would disappear?
Is there a plan B from EGIS or the Flemish government?
Will there be continuity in fuel supply?

I've just checked their annual account (2014) and the additional remarks at the Annual Meeting (May 2015) are quite chocking: it's a declaration of war against Egis.

Ostend Airport has lost 60% of its traffic since the departure of ANA Aviation in May 2014. According to the board of Skytanking Ostend, this caused a turnover decrease from 1.365.898 € (2013) to 862.076 € (2014), leading to a loss (before taxes) of -1.872 € for 2014 compared to a profit of 287.337 € for 2013.

According to Skytaking Ostend's board, this caused the company to go for a plan B: temporary unemployment, limitation of night supply and increase of fuel prices. The board then describes that Egis went to court to block that fuel increase, and the board concludes that they will go into liquidation if Egis continues to blocks a fuel price increase. (Repeat: this is what Skytanking Ostend states.)

Going into liquidation means a loss of the investment, but the annual account 2013 was very good and the shareholders then regained their investment.

Wonder if someone has heard a result of that court case Egis vs. Skytanking Ostend?

They've recieved protection against debtors (Wet Continuïteit Ondernemingen / Loi Continuité Entreprises) from 23/12/2015 till 19/02/2016, and the trade court (Ghent/Bruges) has extended this WCO/LCE untill 18/03/2016 (at midnight).

OST Traffic Figures for the month of February 2016.

Movements
1.952 in FEB 2016 vs 1.993 in FEB 2015 (-2,1% )

PASSENGERS
17.449 in FEB 2016 vs 13.282 in FEB 2015 (+31,4%)
Note: FEB2016 figure includes 264 'transitpassengers'
FEB2015 figure includes 224 'transitpassengers'

FREIGHT
1.552 ton in FEB 2016 vs 945 ton in FEB 2015 (+64,2 %)

Note: FEB2016 figure includes 60 Tons of 'transitfreight'
FEB2015 figure includes 7 tons of 'transitfreight'

Where are these 'transits' coming from?
Although still below the figures from years ago, it seems the freight is slightly picking up.
Passenger figures are also on the rise as expected. They might surpass the 300K pax mark this year.

Just a very wild guess, but such a small number, could this be one or a few diverted flights? These passengers are probably not counted as local pax. But I don't know if there were flights that diverted to OST in February that fit this number of pax.

Otherwise I have no idea on which flights there would be transit pax at OST.

Could it be that passengers from LGG on combined flights LGG-OST-LPA are considered as transit passengers?

All JAF flights from BRU will be diverted to CRL or EBOS until Sunday.

Looks like EBOS is a Jetair only airport...

Skytanking has been replaced by TATNEFT oil AG.
The company intends to sell its own fuelproducts later next month.
Tatneft is a Russian producer of oil and has a large network of fuelpumps in Russia.

Very likely prices for fuel will go down at EBOS and hope to attract some extra freighters.

@ostair: that sounds like good news, regarding fuel supplies. Will Tatneft be offering 100LL too, or only Jet A1? I suppose I needn't even ask for Mogas...

Hi,
There should have been a pressrelease yesterday but due to Brussels attacks it never was published.
So still waiting for the "official news".

Tatneft is using the equipment and some staff of Skytanking.
More news to follow.
