Brussels Airlines starts summer holidays with a strong passenger growth

Tuesday, August 11, 2015 — During the month of July, the first month of the summer holidays, Brussels Airlines registered a very strong passenger growth. Compared to the previous year, the number of passengers that have opted for a Brussels Airlines flight has increased by 14%.

The strategy of Brussels Airlines to expand its flight offer with attractive summer destinations over the summer season has been very successful in the month of July.

In total 738,780 passengers were welcomed on board. This is 90,000 more passengers than in July 2014. The European network registered 14.9% more passengers and 13.1% more passengers travelled with the Belgian airline to New York and Washington. The African network registered a passenger growth of 7.7%.

The passenger growth had a direct positive impact on the seat load factor that grew by 2.9 percentage points to reach 82.7%.

One of the highlights of July was the cooperation with Tomorrowland. 11,871 Tomorrowland passengers checked in for one of the Brussels Airlines party flights.

In addition to its scheduled flight activity, Brussels Airlines operated many holiday flights for tour operators, meeting and incentive agencies and sports clubs. Passenger figures for these charter activities are not included in the monthly figures of this press release.

Its really the new normal to be one of Europe's fastest growing airlines, comfortably beating low costs like Norwegian, easyjet or ryanair month after month. ;)

Sean, can you please provide FR figures for BRU and CRL? There are nowhere available (except perhaps in Ryanair's books which are not public).

Let's leave the sour grapes in the fridge please, Sean: ryanair did publish their growth figure for July: a healthy growth rate of 11% was reported by them, so indeed, Brussels Airlines is beating them comfortably.

I've also done a quick check in the news section of this website (thanks André for your thorough reporting of all facts and figures, btw) and it seems Easyjet reported a growth rate of 9,4% and Norwegian of 8% over the month of July, so the contested statement is 100% accurate to me.

In fact, the only airline which seems to stand out is wizzair, with some 20%.
Could Brussels Airlines indeed be on track to be Europe's second fastest growing airline, once again?

No sour grapes at all Inquirer. I was talking about growth in Belgium, not the overall growth figure. In fact Belgium is outperforming almost all other countries ;)

No offence, but if you can't post them, they're not really relevant to this discussion, are they?
I'm not trying to call you a liar, far from it, but without an official source, that claim is kinda worthless in my eyes.
I may be wrong, of course...

Mind you, this topic is about the overall performance of the airlines, not their market share in Belgium: we have a dedicated market share topic for that, so please feel free to contribute to it:
https://www.aviation24.be/forums/viewtopic ... 14&t=42690

In this dedicated topic, I have already explained one can somehow calculate the maximum number of extra passengers Ryanair can have won from combining the overall growth figures of CRL and BRU with the specific growth numbers of B.air in a clever way, allowing for a meaningful analysis of Ryanair's maximum potential growth in Belgium, even without privileged access to Ryanair's internal kitchen.
KriVa is a very polite person, that much is a given! ;)

Brussels Airlines growth in July 2015 was 14% again Ryanair's 11 %
Congratulations.
Brussels Airlines carried 0,74 million pax in July 2015, against Ryanair's 10,1 million.
There is still a long way to go !

IF IT AIN'T BOEING, I'M NOT GOING.

Lol this is really appelen met peren vergelijken like they say in Dutch. Ryanair has several hubs (or bases as you like), SN only one. If SN would be all over in Europe they would also have such figures.

And your post is off topic. This one is about SN and not Ryanair. So keep your Ryanair propaganda in the correct topic please!

Wel, you cannot really compare both airlines, can you?
First of all, like OO-ITR alrady mentioned, Ryanair is flying all across Europe, while Brussels Airlines only has one hub in a relatively little country, so they will never achieve the same numbers of passengers. It's maybe more relevant to compare the number of Ryanair for Belgium only?
And secondly, given the fast growth rate of Ryanair in the past and their current size, it would be amazing if they could achieve the same growth number.

So both are doing a good job, why can't we just be happy about that? ;)
