PM Rajoy said between 8 and 10 persons on board, supposedly all Spanish, Airbus personnel.
Sources mention 2 severely wounded transported to hospital.

Sad news.

Re: Crash of a military Airbus A400M in Seville: 8-10 fatalities

Post by sn26567 »

The plane was to be delivered to Turkey.

At least three people (all Spanish) have been killed. Two have been transported to a hospital and are in a very severe condition.

Local media report that the plane had signalled that there was a fault with its systems just before the crash.

Seville airport has been temporarily closed.

Seems to have been tracked by FR24.

Horrible info
ATD : 12:54
ETA 12:57
Screenshot FR24 2015-05-09.png
Attempt to return immediately after take-off. Banking leads to loss of kinetic energy, altitude loss and according to Spanish press hit a HV power line apparently very close indeed to the Coca-Cola factory.

3 deads confirmed and 2 severely injured, possibly one or more personnel missing.

Sad day.

Indeed. Per FR24 it seems it came down between the Coca-Cola factory and the Aeropolis where +70 aerospace companies are located.

Probably hit the nearby power lines just before the crash.

Germany says it is suspending all Airbus A400M flights after the crash in Spain.

In UPDATE 1 of their news release, Airbus Defence & Space confirms there were 6 people on board, all of them Spanish Airbus employees, four of which died in the crash.

Britain and Germany said they were suspending A400M flights while they awaited more information on what caused the crash.

Airbus says that A400M test flights will continue until any evidence is produced that would cause them to stop. And the precautionary principle?

Of the four countries that have aleady A400ms delivered to their respective armies, three (Germany, Turkey and the UK) have decided to ground them until the results of the inquiry are known. The fourth one, France, will use them only for urgent missions.

I may be wrong, of course, but isn't the decision to stop flying them quite a big knee-jerk reaction? Even though it's a rather new type, and military forces don't really have the same tradeoff to make as commercial airlines, I still do think there are hints of an overreaction there.
Then again, they might just know something we don't, and aren't privy to.

Malaysia has also grounded its sole A400M.

But Airbus itself plans to resume A400M testing tomorrow Tuesday with military aircraft chief and former head of flight tests Fernando Alonso as part of crew. A sign of confidence!

The reasoning behind the decision of all other airforces to suspend flights with the A400M is not clear .But according to 'het Nieuwsblad' today, the German airforce allone recorded 875 shortcomings after the introduction of their first A400M.If one of those defects is serious enough('T/O electronics'?')to be possibly linked to the crash, then the suspension of further flights comes as no surprise

Airbus has alerted its customers about a possible electronic problem on the engines of its military transport aircraft, the A400M.

Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus D&S) sent a warning note to its clients about its A400 military transport plane, demanding controls the electronic engine management system, after the crash of one of these aircraft that made four dead on May 9 in Seville (Spain).

This warning note "asks operators to perform specific and regular checks of the ECU (electronic control unit) on each engine of the aircraft before flight and perform additional checks after possible replacement of the engine or ECU" said Airbus D&S.
