I see that Schönefeld hasn't changed much in 5 years: there was already a billboard showing the departures outside of the main building (although it has in a much worse shape right now!).

Shares in budget airline easyJet fell on Monday after RBC Capital Markets downgraded the stock to 'underperform' from 'outperform', noting that its positive outlook for summer has proved incorrect.
It said that easyJet's outlook metrics suggest a summer lapse, with underlying third-quarter revenue per seat down around 4% and the fourth quarter likely to see flat revenue per seat.
RBC said that the profit growth failure in summer means the emphasis now move to winter's challenges.
Ryanair's move to further step up competition and a fall in return on equity were among the challenges cited by RBC.

A feature about Carolyn McCall in The New York Times :

EasyJet Chief Leads Airline Through Turnaround

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/16/busin ... iness&_r=0

excerpts :

Ms. McCall has made her mark by turning easyJet from a company in chaos into one with steadily rising profits in Europe’s fiercely competitive airline industry. Part of that earnings growth has come from her efforts to expand easyJet beyond tourism into the more lucrative European business-travel market.
While many European airlines have consistently lost money since the onset of the 2008 financial crisis, easyJet has reported record annual profits for the last four years, nearly doubling revenue during that time. Net income for the 2014 financial year came to 450 million pounds, or about $690 million, on revenue of more than £4.5 billion.

Ms. McCall set to work first on addressing operational and crew scheduling issues that had been the source of easyJet’s punctuality problems.
“Customer satisfaction is very correlated to on-time performance,” she said, “so it’s a really instrumental thing to get right.”
Among the changes introduced by Ms. McCall that were considered radical for a budget airline then: assigned seating, which it turned out passengers strongly preferred to free-for-all boarding. Online seat selection and flexible ticketing options soon followed, as did ticket distribution agreements with third-party travel companies.

But despite her willingness to challenge airline industry conventions, Ms. McCall said she was unlikely to follow some of her rivals into budget long-haul flying.
Instead, Ms. McCall said, easyJet remained focused on scaling up its presence in its core European market. The airline is looking to increase its fleet of Airbus A320s to more than 300 by the end of the decade and has purchase options for as many as 100 more.
Beginning in 2016, they will all start to be fitted with that extra row of seats, bringing capacity up to 186 seats per plane from 180.

EasyJet said on Thursday that it is strengthening its Italian strategy by expanding its bases at Milan Malpensa and Naples and opening a new base in Venice.

Milan Malpensa is already easyJet's second largest base with 18 aircraft and will receive three more from April 2016. This will strengthen easyJet's existing status as the largest airline at Milan Malpensa.
The budget airline currently bases three aircraft in Naples and will base one more plane from there from April 2016.
It will also open a base at Venice Marco Polo Airport starting from April 2016, with four Airbus aircraft based there.
As a result of the redeployment, easyJet will cease basing crew and aircraft at Roma Fiumicino from April 2016.

EasyJet has faced stiff competition at Rome Fiumicino --- Italy’s busiest airport -- after Vueling and Ryanair both started operating there, joining Italy’s biggest airline Alitalia SpA.
“The bottom line is there is a fierce head-to-head battle going on between three aggressive low-cost carriers in Rome, with only minimal retreat by the incumbent. That must be feeding through to weaker yields,” said Barclays analyst Oliver Sleath. “Low-cost carriers are rational and I’m not surprised to see one of them pulling back.”

The company also said on Thursday that it will open a new base in Barcelona from February 2016, with three Airbus aircraft based there.

The UK Airports Commission’s today provided its long-awaited recommendation for future UK airport capacity, identifying a third runway at Heathrow as its clear choice. A final decision, though, rests in the hands of the UK Government.

EasyJet has welcomed the UK Airports Commission’s recommendation.
EasyJet already serves four London airports - Luton, Stansted, Southend and its largest base, Gatwick - and McCall says it would open a base at Heathrow in addition to these operations if the Government gives the go-ahead for Heathrow expansion.
EasyJet has outlined a plan to base 20 aircraft at Terminal 4 if a new runway were approved.

McCall notes: "EasyJet's costs are significantly lower than legacy airlines so even allowing for an increase in charges at an expanded Heathrow, EasyJet's fares on these services would be lower than those paid by passengers today.”

Cabin crew at easyJet are planning to strike this summer in a move that could bring misery to hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers.
The strike – the first by British-based easyJet crew – is likely to take place next month.
Bosses at easyJet have offered cabin crew a pay rise of two per cent but that has been refused by union officials.
Some cabin crew have a basic salary of just £10,000, with most relying on commission from items sold on-board to boost their pay.
Discussions broke down on Thursday and Unite are expected to serve notice on easyJet tomorrow of their intention to ballot for a strike. Voting papers are expected to start going out to members towards the end of this week.

Last night easyJet told the Sunday People they will be making a pay award despite the strike threat.
A spokesman said: “We believe it is right to make the award now since cabin crew, the majority of whom are not union members, have been waiting for a conclusion to the pay discussions for a number of months.
“The offer includes increases of up to 5.1 per cent over two years on top of a market-leading set of pay and conditions.
“EasyJet is disappointed that a minority of its cabin crew voted to reject the recent pay offer.”

An easyJet air hostess has told how cabin crew on the airline feel unfairly treated.
The girl, who asked not to be named, said: “The issue is that we want the same basic pay as easyJet staff in Italy and France.
“We work for the same company yet they get a higher basic pay than us and don’t need to rely on their commission payments.

However, in a statement provided to MailOnline Travel by an easyJet spokesperson on Sunday morning, the airline slammed any impending strike action.
'EasyJet can reassure its passengers that there is no industrial action currently planned by its UK cabin crew and easyJet is confident it will operate its full summer flight schedule,' a spokesperson said.

Diverted landing in SXF: Stopover by easyJet aircraft

An easyJet EZY 4784 aircraft had to make a stopover at Schönefeld Airport on 16.07.2015 at 16:45. The Airbus A320 was en route from Manchester to Tel Aviv with 175 passengers and six members of crew on board. Three passengers complained of discomfort during the flight. The pilot then opted to stop over at Schönefeld Airport.

On landing, the three passengers were brought to hospital from where they have meanwhile been discharged. A suspicion of carbon monoxide poisoning was not confirmed. The Airport Fire Brigade was unable to establish any increased CO values in measurements inside or outside the aircraft.

Twenty more passengers are currently under medical supervision at the airport.

End of emergency response in SXF: Onward flight with replacement aircraft

The emergency response at Berlin Schönefeld Airport has been over since 22:57 on 16.07.2015. A total of 100 personnel were deployed on site on Thursday evening. The unscheduled landing of an easyJet Airbus A320 at 16:45 is currently being assessed by the Federal Flight Accident Investigation Authority (BFU). Shortly after the aircraft landed with 175 passengers and six crew members on board, the Airport Fire Brigade was unable to detect any raised carbon monoxide levels. All passengers at Schönefeld Airport have been examined by medical personnel. The suspicion of carbon monoxide poisoning could not be confirmed here either. The reason for passengers feeling ill on the flight from Manchester to Tel Aviv remains unclear. The airline has organised a replacement aircraft to enable its passengers to resume their flight to Tel Aviv this evening.

EasyJet expects to overcome turbulence to exceed last year’s annual profit of £581 million. Pre-tax profits are projected to go up to between £620 million and £660 million for the 12 months to September.

Revenue per seat was down 2.8% to £59.08 at constant currency in the airline’s third quarter, but better than guidance issued in May.
Quarterly revenue was down by 1% to £1.2 billion, capacity grew by 4.7% to 20.8 million seats, passengers carried increased by 6.2% to 19.1 million, and the load factor increased by 1.3 percentage points to 91.7%.

Chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "Our Q3 performance shows that easyJet's strategy continues to deliver, in particular with good performance in the UK and beach routes across Europe.

“With 77% of second half seats now booked, easyJet expects to grow profit before tax from £581 million for the year to 30 September 2014 to a range of £620 million to £660 million for the year to 30 September 2015".

EasyJet is selling seats that don't exist[

In the busiest summer ever for UK aviation, airlines are extracting maximum revenue by selling seats that don’t exist - and then flouting European rules on overbooking.

Ask the man in the street to which airline these headlines were associated and you might once have expected them to utter the name “Ryanair”.

Except that both were generated by easyJet, which runs the risk of assuming Ryanair’s mantle of being the airline you don’t want to fly with if you can possibly help it.

Against every complaint about EasyJet, one can easily find a complaint about Ryanair.

Easyjet UK cabin crew have accepted a pay deal, narrowly averting the threat of summer strikes.
2,000 Unite members voted 52% to 48% in favour of accepting the combined pay proposal which included a pay award of 4.1% for cabin crew and 5.1% for cabin managers backdated to January 2015 and an increase in holiday pay allowance.

This is probably a first time ever for EasyJet:

A passenger on an Easyjet aircraft at Gatwick Airport has been tasered by police shortly before it was due to take off for Belfast. Officers boarded the plane shortly after 08:00 BST following reports a passenger had become abusive in an argument over luggage. A man has been arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace and is in custody, a Sussex Police spokesman said. Witness statements are being taken from passengers and crew aboard the plane. In a statement, Easyjet said police were called to the aircraft "due to a passenger behaving disruptively". Another passenger: "Man getting arrested on @easyJet flight home to #Belfast because he wants 2 pieces of hand luggage! All because he was insistent of wearing his man purse."

The other passengers were taken off the plane following the arrest, police said. Flight EZY831 was delayed by just over two-and-a-half hours and the plane took off just before 10:55.
