In a way there is a subsidiesed manner to become a line pilot. However it will take longer and is harder to become one as it involves enroling the airforce and starting out as a fighter jet, transport or heli pilot.

These trainngs are free of charge, and only some extra training is left. However it will take way longer and there are far too little job offerings at the airforce for pilots.

Power outage at Amsterdam Schiphol (and actually to the whole province of North Holland) this morning. The airport had to be closed for a couple of hours. KLM has cancelled several European flights, a.o. Aberdeen, Glasgow, Bergen. And the arrival of Arke's third Dreamliner was somewhat delayed...

Le pire, selon une passagère, est le fait que les passagers ont attendu dans la neige durant environ une heure. Les gens gelaient et se demandaient pourquoi personne ne venait les aider, ajoute-t-elle.

KLM will replace the F70 with 15 Embraer 175+ and 2 Embraer 190s. The ERJ 190s will be delivered in December of this year and the deliveries of the 15 ERJ 175+s will start in March 2016 and run until June 2018. Tis means the days of the F70s at BRU are numbered.

QUANTAS

No longer a ‘Q without a U’, Qantas is renaming its airline ‘Quantas’, because after all, it’s all about ‘u’, the traveller.

The change also makes it easier to spell the airline’s name correctly, with ‘Quantas’ having long been used by millions of people worldwide – who won’t have to change a single letter to pass their spelling test.

Travellers will soon receive updated Quantas Frequent Flyer cards in the mail, along with a new set of U Bag Tags

OK, Quantas is one of the best aviation April Fool jokes, together with the decision of Virgin America to relocate its headquarters to Branson, Missouri!

Botched water cannon salute grounds inaugural Virgin Atlantic flight when Foam is used.

A Virgin Atlantic passenger jet was grounded after a botched ‘water cannon salute’ by airport fire tenders clogged up its engines by spraying thick foam instead of water. The water canon salute is the sort of flamboyant gesture for which Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic airline has become famous – and also marks something of a wider aviation tradition. The Virgin Atlantic plane – with its ‘Beauty Queen’ name emblazoned on the fuselage of the Airbus A330-300 - had just landed in Manchester with 188 passengers on board after its high-profile inaugural flight from Atlanta, Georgia in the USA.

It was preparing to depart from Manchester as return flight VS109 when the watery tradition was set to send it on it way.

Eventually the flight was cancelled.

Air India is never a dull airline, there is always something happening at that airline.

Two Air India pilots have been removed from duty following an alleged fight in the cockpit. They have been grounded after the co-pilot reportedly struck the captain. However, the airline insisted the altercation was a verbal argument rather than physical violence.

The Times of India quoted as saying the captain was assaulted after asking his colleague to record data - including passenger numbers on board - before take-off.

The flight from Delhi to Jaipur took place despite the row, and after landing staff were informed of the incident.

Lufthansa presents: the dishwasher "LH Dishwashair":

http://www.lufthansa-technik.com/press- ... id/1651060

Dishwashair": Instead of taking along mountains of heavy dishes and silverware on long-haul flights, why not just wash smaller amounts now and then? Under the guidance of engineers from Lufthansa Technik AG, the company "hs2 engineering" has developed a dishwasher specially designed for use on board passenger aircraft. The professional-quality unit featuring complex safety mechanisms is in series production and can wash a load of dishes in only six minutes with three liters of water. The unit can be installed and connected in standard aircraft galleys.

Closed system: Baskets that fit in any standardized galley can be used for placement of dishes and silverware in the "dishwashair", which can easily be attached to the available connections for fresh and waste water or vacuum systems in an aircraft. A single fill-up of the two required cleaning agents is enough for up to 40 wash cycles.

"Long-haul aircraft in particular take along lots of dishware, amounts that can be reduced considerably with clever logistics," says Oliver Thomaschewski, Head of "Seating and Structures" in the Original Equipment Innovation product division at Lufthansa Technik. "No normal household would keep a separate set of dishes for every meal. Now our "Dishwashair" makes it possible, even in an aircraft, to bring along only the amounts actually needed to provide service."

Some of Lufthansa Technik's VIP customers have already decided to have the "Dishwashair" installed. Now talks on possible applications in airline fleets are to take place at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.

Mechanical engineer Oliver Thomaschewski, Head of "Seating and Structures" in the Original Equipment Innovation product division at Lufthansa Technik, will be at the Lufthansa Technik booth (Hall B6, booth 6B80) at the Aircraft Interiors Expo from April 14 to 16 (2015).
