The A330 was struck with a luggage cart in IAD, no news about the damage though.

An airplane of the Egyptian airline Egyptair made a emergency landing Saturday afternoon at Brussels National Airport , said the airport.

The aircraft had left Brussels at about 16 hours to Cairo before turning back shortly after takeoff due to a technical problem. The plane that landed without problem would have had an engine problem, according to the firefighters of Zaventem.

The aircraft is an A321 registered SU-GBV. Usually Egyptair flies an A320 on the CAI-BRU-CAI route.

The aircraft apparently hasn't taken the air again. Anybody knows what happened to the unfortunate passengers? Since it is a Star Alliance airline, they should not have been abandoned in the dark...

No idea about the passengers, but the aircraft is in Hangar 41 at the moment. (Visible from the outside)

From The Aviation Herald:

"...On 17th August 2015, an American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N942UW performing flight AA-750 from Philadelphia USA) to Brussels (Belgium) with 158 passengers and 9 crew, was enroute at FL310 about 40nm southeast of New York when the crew declared emergency because of a galley oven fire..."

I kind of lost track of this thread.
I spotted the Egyptair A321 in front of hangar 41 (Brussels Airlines) yesterday at around 1510 local.
Judging by the flight number ( 1726 iso. 726) I think it flew empty from BRU to CAI. Take-off was around 16:30 according to FR24.

Railway connection Antwerp - Brussels Airport - Leuven/Louvain will probably be disturbed tonight: there is a bomb alert at Antwerpen-Centraal - Antwerp's main railway station since 20h15. Antwerpen-Berchem now is the railway hub.

Any news about OO-SFY, the A33O from SN that was hit by that bagage trolley on it's RH engine in Washington on the 14th of august? Must be a quite demanding repair if it takes that long. Any insights?

Still on the ground in IAD, as far as I know.

Not really an abnormality, more something I noticed: During the last few days (2-3) I have noticed an increasing number of aircraft parked on the 600 stands during the day. Especially those with longer Turn Around Times seem to reside there now. Normally these aircraft would be parked on Apron 3. Works in progress, or something else?
Right now (9.40 local time), both the Ethiopian 787 and the Finnair A340 are parked on a 6XX stand. Both of those planes have quite some time between their arrival and departure.

On Sunday, 16 August, flight SN 2547 BRU-KRK (Avro RJ100 OO-DWJ) was diverted to KTW at 75 km distance due to a thunderstorm above Krakow Airport. The passengers were transferred by bus to Krakow. But then, the plane returned empty from KTW to Brussels as SN 9548 ! No bus to bring the passengers of flight SN 2548 KRK-BRU to Katowice. The flight was simply cancelled.

The passengers were accommodated for the night at the Hilton near KRK Airport and, since there is no SN flight on Mondays, they were rebooked on various airlines, always involving a connection (e.g. KRK-WAW on LO and WAW-BRU on SN). Most passengers arrived with a delay close to 24 hours.

A poor and costly decision, IMHO.

Any funny traffic rights involved here?

Traffic rights do not exist for positioning flights and definatly not in the EU. This was probably the cheapest option for SN with the least disruption to the network.

(And I think it's best not to mention fuel policy?)

It's finally back after 10 days in IAD and presently flying to Luanda as SN359. (source: FR24)

Good news, too bad it took so long for them, probably due to unavailability of the required spare parts? But hey, better safe than sorry!
