KARACHI: At least 16 cabin crew members of Pakistan's national carrier have disappeared in the last five months in Canada after going there on international flights.

Four cabin crew of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) last month failed to show up for their return flights after disappearing from the hotel in which the flight crew members were staying, Ary News channel reported. The channel said that a spokesman of the PIA had confirmed that in the last five months women cabin crew members had slipped away after flying to Canada on PIA flights.

"Disciplinary departmental action against those who have slipped away has been initiated by PIA while these staffers will also have to face action under international aviation laws," the channel quoted the spokesman as saying.

The cash-strapped airline has some 17,000 employees but just 36 aircraft, and 10 of them are grounded due to a lack of spare parts.

Airline Seat Coverings Find New Life in Kenya.

A leather re-purposing program was recently launched in Nairobi, Kenya that aims to improve the lives of people in local communities. U-S based Southwest Airlines has partnered with SOS Children’s Village Kenya, a non-profit that serves orphaned children and families in need. Additional partners include Malawi and the U-S.

The new initiative called “LUV Seat: Repurpose with Purpose,” is a unique project that came about as the airline was looking for a way to recycle the 43 acres of left-over leather from the seats of their redesigned 737-700 aircraft.

And don't forget the 395 Euro return fares for Jakarta, New York and Curaçao which went for sale this night for 24h (altough it seems difficult/impossible to find the lowest fares now).

Blackpool International Airport has announced it will close on 15 October after a buyer was not found.

A statement on the airport website said: "Unfortunately there is no option for the company other than to close."

Owners Balfour Beatty announced last week it had set 7 October as a deadline for any sale to be completed.

"This is a very sad day for the airport which has a proud aviation history and a loyal, appreciative customer following," the statement added.

Transferring flights
The company said the airport had been making a loss for several years and had to close because no agreement had been made to secure its future.

It added the airport will remain open to the public until 15 October and will maintain operations as normal until then.

Balfour Beatty, which bought the site in 2008, put it up for sale in August.

About 110 staff are employed at the airport, which served some 235,000 passengers last year.

Jet2, which had been operating out of the airport, will be transferring its Blackpool flights to Manchester from Friday.

It takes about three hours to apply the “95 Years” logo to each aircraft.

The special KLM MD-11 to celebrate KLM's 95th anniversary departs Schiphol bound for Montreal.

Earlier this year changes were enacted to Article 56 of the Russian Air Code to allow Russian airlines to hire foreign citizens as flight personnel from 21 July. A Government Order allows the nation’s carriers to recruit up to 200 foreign citizens every year in total.
