LH strike cancelled, AF strike still on (with only 40% of the flights currently departing), what's next? OS!

On Wednesday, September 17, 2014 an internal assembly of Austrian Airlines employees will be held starting at 09:30 a.m. From this point flight irregularities might occur. To make sure, that all passengers reach their destination, Austrian Airlines has already cancelled some flights and rebooked affected passengers. Passengers who provided their telephone number or e-mail address during the booking procedure as well as members of the frequent flyer program Miles & More will be informed via SMS or e-mail of flight changes. All other passengers should check the current status of their flight before heading to the airport.

The Air France pilots' strike has ended. Hours later, Lufthansa pilots do it again. Tomorrow, 30 September!

The pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a strike for long-haul flights departing from Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub scheduled for September 30th in the time from 8.00 to 23.00 CEST.

During the strike period severe disruptions of Lufthansa long-haul flights into and out of Frankfurt are expected. All Lufthansa flights to and from the Munich hub as well as flights to and from Düsseldorf and short-haul flights from and to Frankfurt will operate as scheduled. Furthermore, flights operated by the Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti (operated by OS, SN, 4U, LX, EN) will not be affected.

Passengers holding a Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian Airlines or Brussels Ticket for flights from/to/via Frankfurt on 30.09.2014 can rebook their tickets once free of charge.

Only long-haul LH passengers travelling from Brussels via FRA might be affected.

apparently it's more a work-to-rule action. Or in other words, no longer letting all US and Canadian pax in without asking them the standard immigration questions.

Cockpit, the German pilots' union, has announced a strike at Germanwings on Thursday 16th October between midday and midnight.

There will be considerable disruption and delays to all of Germanwings' operations during time. Not sure yet how it will affect the flights between Brussels and Stuttgart.

Germanwings are currently drawing up a substitute timetable that they are planning to publish at 6pm.

All Germanwings passengers affected are requested to check the status of their flight there before.

Edit: Update from Germanwings: "80 Prozent aller 500 Flüge, die für Donnerstag geplant waren, werden stattfinden." (80% of the flights will be operated). The flights operated by Eurowings will be operated (thus some of the flights from/to Brussels as well).

The SCC has filed a notice of strike at Brussels Airport. The reason for the filing of notice is the dismissal of two employees of airport inspection. The two workers were fired on the spot.
The notice will expire in seven days. If management does not meet the union's demands , a strike could therefore occur . " Not only for security personnel but for the entire airport ," warns the union . In the meantime, spontaneous actions could happen.

Police at the BRU border control is bullying passengers at this moment; they control in such way they never do during the other 364 calendar days.

Reason : the goverment wants to change their retirement date.

By harrassing passengers, they cause a aqueue. The press reports about that queue and then asks the police union why they harrass people. They then can tell their story once again about the "unfair" retirement plan.

The trade unions are now harrassing Eurostar travelers. Their unannounced actions cause that many Railway passengers miss their train and will be stranded.

Earlier today, the unions have blocked access to Zeebrugge harbour with the same kind of controls.

Another strike in France on 4th November?

TAP Portugal braces for cabin crew strike

TAP Portugal has warned it is expecting “significant disruption” from a cabin crew walkout planned for Oct. 30 and Nov. 1.

The SNPVAC union, which represents 90% of TAP’s cabin crew, is planning strike action for four days to protest working conditions at the carrier. The other two days of action will be held on Nov. 13 and Dec. 2.

The union’s grievances include scheduling issues and a lack of staff.

TAP Portugal has warned it can only guarantee minimum service on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, although its Portugalia regional operations are not expected to be affected.

Update: the unions allow tourists and businessmen (m/f) to travel carefree till 19th November. Talks today about the above dismissal were "satisfying", thus no strike during this week's school holiday. On 19th November, an external audit will be published. If the unions dislike the result, they will harrass passengers.

On Thursday 6th November 2014, the unions organize another of those useless "protest meetings" in Brussels. The newspaper De Standaard reports that the unions have called 6th November as an "official strike day" (what's in a name), and that harrassments therefore are likely.

On Monday 3th November, the unions will "inform their members about the importance of that 6th November protest meeting". Therefore, De Standaard reports, it's not excluded that those so called informative sessions will be held during normal working hours".

Given the fact that Union members don't give a sh*t about passengers (tourists and/or businessmen) and given their genetic disorder to harrass other people, one may expect problems at Brussels Airport on both Monday 3th November and Thursday 6th November.

Strike set to affect Italy flights on Friday 14 November

Airlines have cancelled some flights to Italy on Friday as the country is set to hold a 24-hour general strike.

The industrial action is due to start from midnight and there is expected to be disruption to flights as well as trains and other types of public transport across Italy.

Easyjet said it had cancelled some flights to Italy with customers offered a free transfer to another flight or full refund.

Ryanair said that the strike would affect security at Bologna, Pisa and Genoa airports and urged passengers to arrive at these three airports earlier than usual.

Workers at Italian carrier Alitalia are set to go on strike for four hours on Friday from 12.00 to 16.00 local time, despite talks earlier this week between unions and the airline.
