Flybe will start daily flights from Southend to Antwerp on 3 July 2014. And that's not a joke! The service will be operated by Stobart Air.
The frequency will become double daily later this year (September).

ATR 72-600
Re: New Budget airline from January to ANR!
Exactly, Stobart Air are the new owners/successors of the Aer Arann fleet. Apart from a leased Avro RJ, this was always an ATR 42 and ATR 72 fleet.

Re: New Budget airline from January to ANR!
This is a great new for antwerp airport, but sorry i m not very optimistic, business people will prefer to fly city jet to London City or using the eurostar while Leisure people will prefer Easyjet from Brussels or the Eurostar.
Re: New Budget airline from January to ANR!
I agree, not a viable destination for the reasons stated above. ANT has so much potential, but with the right
routes. BA to LHR will definitely pick loads of transfer pax. and city trip people as LHR-LONDON with the tube, or heathrow Express..is actually
faster and more convenient than LCY-London (apart from financial centre at the city).. ZRH with LX will be fantastic too for transfer PAX..Maybe might be interesting for pharma. companies around the harbor and Basle (through ZRH)? GVA worked well for VLM in the past. Lots of traffic, tourism (both ways), ski etc..

A very welcome news. Remains to see the ticket price, as Flybe is not particularly famed for its low fares.sn26567 wrote:Flybe will start daily flights from Southend to Antwerp on 3 July 2014.

Re: New Budget airline from January to ANR!
I just checked the price for the very first flight on July 3. with a return a few days later. It costs € 70.00 without checked Luggage.

Yes, Flybe (operated by Stobart) will launch no less than 6 routes from Southend this summer: in addition to Antwerp and Groningen there will be routes to Rennes, Münster-Osnabrück, Cologne-Bonn and Caen.Passenger wrote:Flybe also starts Southend-Groningen (up north in the Netherlands) from 4th June 2014:

I've booked an ANR-SEN-SEN on the first day ... we'll see : I expect I have about a 50% probability of it all going as planned !
(It cost me 77 euros : fare of 70 euros plus 7 euros for use of a credit card).

Hi
wow, they really are doing 'an eye for an eye' competiotion for BCY/VLM, they also fly the London City - Münster Osnabruck leg and also of course LCY - ANR. so this is just an 'alternative' rather then a real new route.
Apart from offering pax a way to 'break open' the market (which I'm afraid is already saturated in ANR, at least, the London route, they can't even fill a F50 when it's the only possbility so far to fly from ANR to London ... let alone an ATR72 with up to 70 seats, curious how they will manage, but hey ... competition or not, I still wish them the best).
I would have also preferred a new route (Rome, Paris, Manchester maybe again (if someone brave enough) or something else ...).
Greets, Yannick

Don't know why this has not been mentioned today (or has it?)
The name VLM will return, and maybe new flights from Antwerp . Rumors say Zürich, Geneva, Birmingham and Munich.

Well, I was too pessimistic !airazurxtror wrote:I've booked an ANR-SEN-ANR on the first day ... we'll see : I expect I have about a 50% probability of it all going as planned !
The line was opened as expected.
Champagne for the passengers at Deurne, water salute at Southend - and at Deurne for the evening return flight.
The aircraft was an ATR 72-500 registered in Ireland (EI-REL from Aer Arann), sporting a Flybe c/s, with "operated by Stobart Air".
I estimated the LF yesterday as 60 % on ANR-SEN, 90% for SEN-ANR.
(the Southend Airport railway station is just in front of the terminal - frequent trains go to Liverpool Street station in about one hour).
