Sepang, 8 March 2014: Malaysia Airlines confirms that flight MH370 has lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2.40am, today (8 March 2014).

Flight MH370, operated on the B777-200 aircraft, departed Kuala Lumpur at 12.41am on 8 March 2014. MH370 was expected to land in Beijing at 6.30am the same day. The flight was carrying a total number of 227 passengers (including 2 infants), 12 crew members.

Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft.

We deeply regret that we have lost all contacts with flight MH370 which departed Kuala Lumpur at 12.41 am earlier this morning bound for Beijing.

The aircraft was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6.30am local Beijing time.

Subang Air Traffic Control reported that it lost contact at 2.40am (local Malaysia time) today.

Flight MH370 was operated on a Boeing B777-200 aircraft.

The flight was carrying a total number of 239 passengers and crew – comprising 227 passengers (including 2 infants), 12 crew members. The passengers were of 13 different nationalities.

Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft.

Our team is currently calling the next-of-kin of passengers and crew.

Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilize its full support.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members.

AZircraft was a Boeing 777-200ER registered 9M-MRO (12 years old).

Passengers of 14 nationalities were on board. Most were Chinese (at least156) or Malaysian (around 40), but there were also 12 Indonesians, 7 Australians, 4 Americans, 3 French, 2 Ukrainians, one Russian and one Italian.

Contact with the aircraft was lost over the South China sea. Vietnamese authorities say the plane has crashed into the sea near the Vietnam coast, but Malaysian minister says he has no indication on where the plane has crashed.

There are also 12 crew, of which we know the pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, and first officer Fariq Ab. Hamid, are both Malaysian.

The Italian "Passenger" has turned up alive and well and apparently was not a Passenger at all. Had his Passport stolen in Thailand last year so it would appear somebody may been using it for the most hideous of reasons...

Same type: 777-200ER, as for the BA 777 in Heathrow. No fatalities in the BA crash, but 3 pax died in the Asiana crash, the first fatalities in the 777 history.

There has been no distress call, no ELT or other signal was received from the aircraft.

That certainly puts another light on things. Could this be a terrorist attack?

If they won't find the wreckage or the black boxes, then the world will never know. The boxes' emergency beacon only has power for around ~48 hours, so it's a race against the clock.

An oil slick has been spotted, however the air search is suspended for the night and will resume tomorrow (Sunday) morning. The sea search continues...

Fifteen planes and 9 ships were or are are being used in the search for Malaysia Airlines.

Ther Italian and the Austrian listed as passengers on the missing Malaysia plane had their passports stolen and are safe, officials say.

But nowhere it is said that other passengers travelled with the stolen passports. If so, among the missing people there should be two unidentified persons.
