According to our newspaper (HN) the JAF 787 had 3 defective parts, 2 of which could be obtained "locally" and 1 part had to come from USA.But that last part was sent by air to mexico first by regular flight.Quite some time was lost by this transfer.
I wonder if it not would have been cheaper to send it by some charterplane directly from USA to Cancun then, considering the compensation to be paid to the passengers and the hiring of a a330 for other 787 flight(s). Could JAF not claim the costs made from the manufacturer?
A first big problem (and delay) for the JAF 787 OO-JDL ?

That totally depends on the sort of problem. Otherwise the manufacturers of aircraft and their parts would all be bankrupt now if they could be helt responsible for every single failure and the costs involved with these failures.FLYAIR10 wrote: Could JAF not claim the costs made from the manufacturer?

agreed, but it's a brand new aircraft ...RoMax wrote:That totally depends on the sort of problem. It's not uncommon that brand new a/c are deffective, especially not even with a rather brand new type.
Give them a few months to clear all child disease, give both maintenance staff and cockpit crew some time to get used their new "toy".
And, of course, evrything mechanical can break down.

Let's not blow things out of proportion, shall we?
The plane was grounded because it had defective equipment and was unsafe to fly transatlantic. The correct decision was taken to make the necessary repairs and house and feed the pax in the meanwhile. I respect a company that is able to take empower it's crews to take such decisions! I challenge any one of us who has a job out of aviation to step to his boss this morning with a decision that will cost him a few 10k€...I'm guessing that you would've had better days on the job

This is exactly the reason why FR has a learjet to fly parts and mechanics around!FLYAIR10 wrote:According to our newspaper (HN) the JAF 787 had 3 defective parts, 2 of which could be obtained "locally" and 1 part had to come from USA.But that last part was sent by air to mexico first by regular flight.Quite some time was lost by this transfer.

Re: A first big problem (and delay) for the JAF 787 OO-JDL ?
not to question you or FR but what do they do when the airport the a/c is grounded isn't base and crew is overdue? do they fly new crew over with learjet too? and lets not forget on long haul those problems are a bit more difficult and time absorbing to solvesean1982 wrote:

Re: A first big problem (and delay) for the JAF 787 OO-JDL ?
It depends, if there is another flight from another base thy might put a crew on that airplane to take over another one ... if there is no other flight that day (or it turns out to be the most convenient) the learjet will pick up a crew from a base and fly them to wherever they need to go.
Re: A first big problem (and delay) for the JAF 787 OO-JDL ?
now that's what I call a hand-on approach! A learjet to fly in the crew/parts!!!

That's good organization. ...
Didn't know about it, but given the size of FR Fleet...it makes sense and it is professional as well...

It's the same at TNT, they have a learjet and fly parts, mechanics and crew if it's economically interesting...

And if it fits inside... learjet's aren't that big.
Re: A first big problem (and delay) for the JAF 787 OO-JDL ?
A huge problem in bringing spare parts to Mexico is customs. JAF already used some private jets aswell in the past in Europe, but for this occurence it is a logistical nightmare. Deploying a charter flight from the US to Mexico involves a lot of paperwork, waiting for approval, etc... Once the spare part arrives in Cancun it then needs to be cleared by customs and that's where a lot of time is waisted, especially in Mexico where they are very strict.

Interesting! Didn't know that .. Morrocco seems to be a similar problem.
