Liege Airport intends to cooperate intensively with Maastricht Aachen Airport. That's what the Belgians said to the Dutch province of Limburg.

For the passenger and business aircraft markets, Liege wants include joint marketing and common schedules. Liege also wants cooperation in the field of aircraft maintenance.

In the cargo market, LGG believes to work more efficiently than MAA, for example because it may be operated at Liege also at night. The Belgians would be happy to see the cargo of MAA coming to Liege.

The Maastricht Aachen Airport has been working for years with difficulty, and will soon be taken over by the Province. Until that acquisition is official on July 1, deputy Twan Beurskens does not want yet anticipate a possible collaboration. According to him, the province had exploratory talks with several airports to discuss the possibilities of a takeover. He does say that precisely the cargo business will determine the future of Maastricht.
From Luchtvaartnieuws.nl:

The provincial authorities ("Provinciale Staten van Limburg") have voted in favour of a rescue plan for Maastricht Aachen Airport. The province of Limburg takes over the airport from current owner Omniport/Vermeer, for one symbolic Euro. The province gives itself two years to find a new operator to run the airport. During the next ten years, the province will invest a further 45 mio Euro for security and fire brigade. Another 15 mio Euro is set aside for a possible joint venture with the new operator. Another 16 mio Euro is expected from the federal government (10m) and the regional cities (6m). The airfield will be divided into an airport part and a business company (property development). The province plans to sell 180 hectare of this development.

Luchtvaartnieuws.nl continues: "Within two years, the province expects to know if MAA is suitable for passenger flights. If not, MAA will remain a cargo airport".

Astral Aviation (8V, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) will switch its European hub from Ostend to Liège at the end of this month. CargoFacts reports the African freight specialist will also add a second B747-400(F) to its longhaul fleet in September. At present, Astral wet-leases a B747-400(F) from Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) in cooperation with ANA Aviation.

They just follow ANA I guess.

Maybe nothing to do with previous post, but CAL should introduce B747-400Fs. One in August and an other in Oct.

Israel's CAL to acquire two B747-400(F)s
CAL Cargo Air Lines (5C, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) has announced plans to dry lease a B747-400(F) in addition to acquiring a B747-400(ERF) as part of its fleet renewal plans. The Israeli freight operator expects the B747-400(F) to enter service in September with the second aircraft due in November.

DB Schenker, along with Overseas Horse Services (OHS), Liege Airport and Qatar Airways Cargo, has transported 53 showjumping horses from Calgary in Canada to Liege Airport in Belgium for the upcoming World Equestrian Games in France.

The horses were provided first class service on board a non-stop Boeing 777F flight. They will take part in the games scheduled for 23 August to 7 September 2014 in Normandy.

In addition to horses, the aircraft also transported eleven tons of equipment, nine animal care staff and three dogs.

The horses were loaded in 22 double stables and three triple stables, whereas the equipment was placed on ten lower deck pallets.
