Incident from 08th August 2014:
Passenger wrote:From "The Times of India":
"...A Jet Airways aircraft winging its way from Mumbai to Brussels last Friday suddenly dropped 5,000 feet in the Ankara airspace over Turkey. The commander of the Boeing 777 aircraft was taking 'controlled rest', which means a nap as per rules. The aviation regulator is now probing if the co-pilot too had dozed off..."

Update 28th December 2015: the final report has been published. The Aviation Herald reports: India's Directortate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released their final report concluding the probable cause of the incident was: "...The first officer inadvertently fed the Altitude window on Mode Control Panel with the corrected track of 292 Degree and activated thereby causing the altitude of the aircraft to drop..."

On 25th April 2014, HQ-5842 Brussels-Tenerife was operated by a Sata International A320 (CS-TKP). The flight had to divert to Bordeaux because of engine failure. A replacement Privilege Style 757-200 (EC-HDS) was flown to Bordeaux and brought the passengers to Tenerife with a delay of 7h45.

A JetairFly 737-800 (OO-JLO) performing flight TB-5421 (JAF-5421) from Brussels to Palma Mallorca was on final approach to Palma's runway 24L. A TuiFly 737-800 (D-AHFH) performing flight X3-2313 from Palma Mallorca to Dusseldorf was taxiing for departure from runway 24L and was cleared to line up runway 24L and wait. The ATC controller assessed a short time later that the separation between the arriving and departing aircraft had become too tight to permit the departure before the arriving aircraft and cancelled the line up clearance, however, not before the German TuiFly aircraft had already crossed the hold short line. "The JetairFly crew advised they would accept a visual approach clearance and would continue landing in this case, the controller verified they had the German aircraft on the ground in sight and cleared the aircraft for a visual approach and cleared the aircraft to land." So technically they landed on an occupied runway, I didn't know there were provisions in the rules to allow that even in VMC.

"Land after" is a procedure used at several airports and is completely legal. The responsability for separation rests with the following aircraft.
epsilon wrote:You are correct, I am familiar with the land after instruction, but that usually entails that it are two landing aircraft with a minimum separation (usually about 2000m but not vacated yet) before no2 crosses the threshold. Not with one aircraft laterally infringing the runway at the holdingpoint at the start of the runway for an unknown distance. Its a can of worms I guess.
