Somebody with a more precise, technical, explanation? I mean: as allready said it must be allready well below max.landing weight?

Burning fuel to weigh lighter to land can not be the problem anymore. He's been circling for too long. He should be able to land right now. There must be another problem.

He's finally coming in to land now.

"Un avion qui vole vers les USA part rempli de carburant. L'appareil était trop lourd pour pouvoir directement atterrir", explique le porte-parole de Belgocontrol, tout en précisant que le pilote a fait demi-tour "par mesure de précaution" et n'a demandé aucune assistance.
L'appareil de la compagnie aérienne américaine a finalement atterri sans encombres sur le tarmac de Brussels Airport peu après 17h30.

David L., online reader from a well known Flemish newspaper, thinks he knows why this 757 went that long in holdings: "Het leegvliegen van de tank is puur veiligheid, als het vliegtuig dan crasht tijdens het landen, is het geen vuurbom".

Translated: flying around to empty the fuel tanks is done for safety reasons. If the aircraft would crashland, it doesn't become a firebomb then.

Thanks David!

Wonder why it lasted so long, the Boeing 757's MLW is pretty close to it's MTOW so in theory it shouldn't had to circle for hours, afaik it could land without circling at all.

Edit: Seems it flew for over 6,5 hours, taking the lower altitude in consideration it would mean that it was virtually empty when it landed in BRU

Indeed. The Boeing 757 is unable to dump fuel so the captain was forced to enter a holding pattern west of Brussels for several hours. But six hours circling must have been horrendous for the passengers...

Although it was an extremely long hold, it still wasn't enough according to VTM and HLN (same ownership): "A boeing from US Airways has circled for more then five hours above Belgium"

Because of heavy traffic? Followed the morning-landings some time and there were plently of holdings above FLO, ANT and AFI!

SN A319 blocked on 25L because of hydraulic problem. Brakes, flaps and thrust reverser blocked. Then it managed to disconnect left thrust reverser and to leave the runway.

The airport in Burkina Faso's capital city of Ouagadougou was shut down on Thursday as thousands of anti-government demonstrators set the parliament building on fire and protested against the extension of President Blaise Compaore's 27-year rule. All flights in and out of the airport have been canceled until further notice.

Due to the current political unrest in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Brussels Airlines has taken the decision to cancel following flights for tomorrow, October 31st :

· SN255 Brussels 11h35 – Ouagadougou 16h30

· SN256 Ouagadougou 22h40 – Brussels 05h20 (arrival on November 1st)

(schedules are in local times)

I think it's for maintenance on the OO-SFM? The euroAtlantic will fly the DKR-BJL rotation today (05NOV).
