I was there too and made an illustrated report about it higher in this very topic. How could you miss that? ;)

Danielle Neyts (a nice lady, by the way, with whom I had a nice chat about Ireland and its airlines - also Aer Lingus) didn't say anything, because there were no speeches, just a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Though she could still have said that to a journalist (probably more than one)?

Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, was hired in December 2013 to change public perception about the low-cost carrier. Jacobs had spent five years as CMO of Moneysupermarket.com and many years at Tesco before that.

Each week he visits at least four Ryanair airports, and so far has racked up 107 flights on Europe’s biggest airline.

Before Jacobs’ arrival, Ryanair also knew little about its customers. Ryanair was not alone in this – airlines have little information about who flies on them. This was an anathema to Jacobs, who was used to the massive amounts of information Tesco has about its customers. Indeed, Tesco owns Dunnhumby, a data company that crunches massive amounts of information about what you buy and where. He says: “Working at Tesco with Clubcard loyalty scheme, we knew everything about our customers. Airlines don’t do that. We’re now converting that data into a big asset for the company.”
Ryanair plans to start making personalising offers, differentiating between its customers.
The company has established what it calls Ryanair Lab, combining digital marketing, technology and data teams at its headquarters in Dublin. Ryanair has been on a massive recruitment drive for developers and data scientists since, with plans to triple the size of the data team in the next few years to around 100 employees.

With helpful staff, extra legroom and a live-and-let-live baggage policy, Ryanair is going after the more discerning customer who values the in-flight experience. That said, Jacobs thinks that some customers will miss the old buccaneering attitude.

“One of the reasons I joined the brand was because of that Robin Hood spirit. We’re still the Aldi of the air. There’s an element of authenticity that people still appreciate,” he grins.

Most importantly, Ryanair is embarking on a cabin crew training programme.

But won’t a new disruptive airline come along as Ryanair climbs upmarket? Jacobs levels at me. “That’s just not going to happen,” he says, shaking his head.

The average cost of a Ryanair flight was €46 this year, he claims, compared with €83 for EasyJet and €242 for British Airways.

Nevertheless, Ryanair’s biggest challenge will be to find the balancing point between always getting better and keeping costs down.

Indeed: he has worked hard to change the perception. But the product remains the same: very low fares, compensated by a very long list of surcharges, grateful collected by external handling staff who earn commission on these surcharges. And it works, to great relief of the shareholders (including O’Leary).

So let's look at that Ryanair's new "customer friendly profile". In September, the British consumer magazine Which? has published its yearly survey “Customer Service”. In the 2014 survey, Ryanair scored 98th on 100, with a score of 59% (the first on the list scores 87%).

The worst companies 2014 in the U.K.:
n° 94 : 64% : BT and EE and SSE
n° 97 : 63% : TalkTalk
n° 98 : 59% : Ryanair
n° 99 : 58% : Scottish Power
n° 100 : 57% : Nopower

The worst companies 2013 in the U.K.:
n° 96 : 62% : TK Maxx
n° 97 : 62% : 99pc Stores
n° 98 : 59% : TalkTalk
n° 99 : 59% : Npower
n° 100 : 54% : Ryanair

Two places up in 2014 and only 2% better then the worst company. Long way to go before they will be regarded as customer friendly. Which? says this about Ryanair’s progress: “…Since our 2013 customer survey, Ryanair has started to implement changes to its customer service including a new website and allocated seating. It’s early days and time will tell if these improvements can lead to Ryanair getting a higher customer service score in future surveys….”

Hi,
Concerning travel polls and customer services..
We all know what its all about and really getting tired of this..
Each year the same... same results and discussions..
It will never change... a summary :
Ryanair takes you cheap from A to B.
The blabla and the surcharges you have to take with it...
Customer friendly? Not a penny really...
Stewards and stewardesses are real fine,... ( my opinion )
Final point.
Live with it or pay more...
 :!:  :D

About suing airlines or other ways of transportation, I have a double experience.

1. Not later than this year I complained to SNCF for delays of 1:15 and 1:30 hours for two TGV (HST) trains between Brussels and Avignon: I got reimbursed of 25% of the cost of my tickets within one month.

2. In the years 1990, I sued Virgin Express (an LCC) for a camera stolen inside my suitcase between BRU and FCO (in fact there was a gang operating at FCO) and baggage delivered 48 hours after my arrival in Rome. I used a lawyer specialised in aviation matters. Virgin refused to pay, I won the case and got reimbursed for the camera, clothing and toiletries I had to buy in Rome and a compensation (enabling me to pay the lawyer) on top of that. Only my lawyer went to the court, I didn't go, neither did Virgin's lawyer.

Extracts :

Ryanair has taken on Boxever, a provider of customer intelligence and predictive marketing for the travel industry, as part of its new customer-centric policy.
Boxever will implement a new customer intelligence and personalised marketing platform within Ryanair's Digital Experience team.

"We have rolled out a series of customer experience improvements over the past year as part of our 'Always Getting Better' program and we have particularly focused on how we communicate with our 89 million customers," said Dara Brady, Ryanair's Head of Digital Experience. "Boxever's platform helps us learn more about our customers, ensuring we can tailor our offering to better suit their requirements."

Boxever enables Ryanair to create a rich, 360-degree view of each customer, using information from across the organisation, allowing it to accurately segment its customer base into distinct groups and offer specific products to these various groupings, Boxever said.

( Boxever, the travel marketing software specialist whose investors include a firm backed by Irelandia, the investment vehicle run by the airline’s former board member, Declan Ryan).

Ryanair has confirmed it is in talks to upgrade it's existing Boeing 737-800 order from the current "yellow cabin" to the new sky interior and has plans to retrofit it's entire fleet with a skyinterior cabin. This is in the setting of the airline's "always getting better" programme. The new Boeing 737 max has been ordered with sky interior as well. This upgrade would mean Ryanair would have one of the largest seat pitch amongst european operators with the slim line seats in it's NG fleet.

Ryanair buys its 375 Boeing aircraft in ... Luxembourg

According to the Belgian newspaper "Echo", the Irish low-cost airline is buying its planes by a Luxembourg subsidiary funded by money from the Isle of Man.

While its planes do not take off Findel, the Irish low-cost airline is indeed very present in Luxembourg. Belgian newspaper L'Echo says that "it is through a company registered in the Grand Duchy that Ryanair ordered in less than two years the fleet which dominates the skies over Europe for years : 175 Boeing 737-800 in March 2013, and last September, all 200 of the new planes Max 200 series provided by the same US manufacturer." For that bulk purchasing without equivalent, Ryanair negotiates preferential rates and secrets.

In addition to the subsidies paid by "its" European airports close to Luxembourg, Charleroi (Belgium), Frankfurt-Hahn (Germany), Ryanair also pocketed huge help for export from the United States because of its purchases from Boeing, its manufacturer of record. But the already wealthy Michael O'Leary, founder and boss of Ryanair, also knows how to do on tax optimization.

"Until then, its planes were often purchased by companies located in the US state of Delaware, where the tax is zero for firms that do not have actual activity. The planes were quickly leased to Ryanair and the Irish Revenue never saw the color of money, "writes the newspaper" The Echo ".

Ryanair, which also has subsidiaries for tax purposes on the Isle of Man, Cyprus and Lithuania, is now also established in Luxembourg. On 18 January 2013, Ryanair Limited took control of a Luxembourg company, Acapulco Investments, bought from a Panamanian company. Acapulco is then became part of a trust company (Capita Fiduciary) whose parent company is British and managing director resident in Jersey. Five days after its purchase, Acapulco became Aviation Finance and Leasing in Luxembourg, with a branch of the same name in Switzerland. In early activity, the Luxembourg subsidiary of Ryanair worked with one part-time employee. Then two more later.

On September 8, 2014, Michael O'Leary has ordered 200 new Boeing of a type that he will be the first to use. This purchase will be explained to shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting, Friday, Nov. 28, in Dublin. "In the notice announcing the AGM, it is briefly described that a subsidiary 100% owned by Ryanair has agreed to make the purchase of a value of EUR 16.7 billion. The Aviation Finance and Leasing name is mentioned. But not its host country," said" The Echo ".

This country is Luxembourg. AFL headquarters is located at 16, avenue Pasteur, in Luxembourg City. As in Delaware, the Boeing aircraft are purchased and leased back just as quickly. In the accounts of the Irish firm, leasing aircraft is charged in the form of operating expenses, thereby limiting the profit subject to tax. In Luxembourg, Aviation Finance and Leasing has no real activity. Just the opposite of the Ryanair Boeings crisscrossing the European sky without ever taking off from Findel.

This has nothing to do with FR bashing. What FR does in this case is totally legal (until proven otherwise), but totally unethical... like many things FR does. No FR bashing, just FR reality : unethical.
(To be complete, I'll add that FR is not the only corporation acting unethically.)

unethical?? hahaha you crack me up ... please name one "ethical" company that would not set up a system to lower taxes and maximise profits if they have the possibility to do so?

Arrogant and pathetic, dear Sean, as most of the time.
All companies try to lower taxes and maximize profits, but the vast majority do it without resorting to tax havens like FR (one of the big ones that can afford to pay national taxes or cannot they ? would that mean the disappearance of FR ?)
