This is only a very minor capacity change as far as SN is concerned.

Their A332 has 22 c-seats vs.30 in an A333, and 246 in Y vs. 254.
22 seats is still more than enough for JFK if you consider the real "revenue" PAX market.

This could also upgauge the cargo capacity for Africa in S14.

Icelandair will fly up to 4 times a week next summer. The first flight is on 01 May while the last flight will be somewhere end of October (can't check that because Amadeus only displays until mid-August 2014).

Lovely to see more volcano-planes in BRU! Now let's see what Thomas Cook Airlines will do...

It seems that SN has gotten back to their senses about the realities of the JFK route. JFK is A332 at best, as I said and I didn't understand their logic for going A333, as it's too much aircraft for that route, regardless of any reduced competition. When you have a yield problem, you only make it worse by feeding overcapacity be it in C or Y class.

Sure the difference is only 16 seats per flight, but on the Africa routes, those 16 seats can add 15.000 euro of revenue to a flight (30.000 per day), without forgetting the additional cargo revenue.

Maybe after time they can grow back to A333, but they need to be using their big equipment in Africa where the money is.

Just booked an easyjet flight to Nice on a sunday next April (84€/return). There is a gap of 4h50min between arrival and departue in BRU. I couldn't find any other easy flight fitting in the gap, so I guess easyJet is going to announce another destination from Brussels soon. My money is on CPH or BOD, anybody knows which slots they requested for next summer?

That would be strange as easyJet doesn't have any aircraft based in Brussels. Flights are operated from the other bases.

But they do have a base in Nice, so aircraft route is:
NCE-BRU 1425-1605
BRU-XXX
XXX-BRU
BRU-NCE 2055-2245

CPH could work :) Easyjet "owns" CPH Go (CPH's low-cost terminal but only Easyjet is using it) so very easy to swap crew or aircraft should it be needed.

NCE-BRU 1425-1605
BRU-CPH 1635-1810
CPH-BRU 1850-2025
BRU-NCE 2055-2245

This could be like a schedule whereas afternoon departure from BRU is yet a bit too early for business people. However departure in CPH is just perfect for business people!

Hi,

CPH could be but competition with SK,SN,..
BOD is competition free, same distance, ...
Or BFS,STN !,...

Nice to see a new route, FCO,BCN,LIS, don't fit in this shedule ...

We'll see ...

CXB, still prefered a norwegian announcement... Lol
New types flown 2022.. A339

Well I wonder how long it'll take Norwegian to discover BRU at last! They have to put their planes somewhere... and they cover nearly all Spanish islands from all over Norway.

Competition with SK and SN, yes, for sure. Whereas the first one has the ability to offer onward connections into Scandinavia and beyond, SN has point-to-point and Scandinavians choosing them to fly to Spain. There's little room for a low-cost focusing on point-to-point. Not necessarily on a daily basis. That could be too much.

If you want to be a sustainable LCC in BRU, you need to cover a good part of the network that SN is covering. If Norwegian can do that, they have a chance in BRU, but if they do it like U2 where they only try to cover the routes where SN is making the most money, they will have a very hard time expanding.

Schedule-wise, you need good 3-daily frequencies if you want to work out of an airport like BRU. Any LCC expanding at BRU will have to take a huge share of their pax out of SN's customer base.

For the rest I don't believe in the Norwegian dream. I think that it's all short-term hype, but when it will come time to accept all those "500" aircraft, they will be short on funds and idea's.There's actually very little behind their business development. They have found room for development in Norway where you have a very weak airline (SK) and a high-income population base who would like to spend their holidays, or even weekends, where it's warmer than freezing Norway. Also, there's little Ryanair.

But Europe is a whole other ballgame and I think that they will already hit a wall very fast with their longhaul operations. Sure they can fill 4 or 5 B788's out of Norway to assorted destinations, what are they going to do with the rest of them? Santa will be happy to have a longhaul hub next to the North Pole, for the rest OSL doesn't look like an attractive hub to go anywhere.

So yes, Norwegian can succeed in BRU if they take-over from SN the same way they are taking over from SK in Norway.

Regarding Easyjet's Nice - Brussels schedule for Summer 2014, the aircraft has holes in the schedule to operate a route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
BRU - XXX 1635 - 1815
XXX - BRU 1845 - 2025

Sundays
BRU - XXX 1730 - 1910
XXX - BRU 1940 - 2120

Apparently Easyjet are due to announce a Hamburg base.
Could the holes in the Brussels schedule (post above) be a new Brussels to Hamburg route?
