Re: Crash at SFO!
Amazing that people just stop, turn around an take a picture... we are so common with events like these
Re: Crash at SFO!
First indications show that, for some reason, the aircraft tail struck the ground "before" the runway threshold, causing the tail section and multiple debris to be scattered on the runway before the aircraft ended up spinning 180 degrees next to the runway to it's final resting place.
Re: Crash at SFO!
Tail hitting first indicates low speed flight or a stall ... Just like the BA crash a few years ago
Re: Crash at SFO!
I just checked in to see if there was any footage of this crash available, after reading about it on rtbf's website.
Looks really bad: any news about casualties, which I hope are few (if any)?
I'm wondering if the impact itself has been filmed too, although I am not sure I'd want to see it: that crash of a cargojet in Afganistan was extremely terrifying to me.

A bit premature apparently...stratofreighter wrote:http://avherald.com/h?article=464ef64f&opt=0Emergency services reported all occupants have been accounted for and are alive.

At least two dead, 61 injured in Boeing 777 crash at SFO
EDIT:Confusion reigns supreme...

Emergency services reported all occupants have been accounted for and are alive. Emergency services repeated ALL occupants have been accounted for in response to media reports that two people have been killed and said, these reports are untrue.

Re: Crash at SFO!
Hi anyone a view on the descend profile, was it an idle descend all the way down from its cruising level?
Was it cdo? Was there a long level off, necessitating spooling up the engines?

Re: Crash at SFO!
A bit early to speculate on the cause. But two things in that respect come to mind.
First, korean pilots don't have the best reputation. Second, it looks irrily similar to the BA crash. Could that have happen again...?
And have to say, if the latter is the case, or any other aircraft malfunction for that matter, the crew actually did an exelent job in getting allmost everyone out alive.

Re: Crash at SFO!
I think that the luckiest people were those on UA885... they had a first row seat as the accident unfolded in front of them.
According to ATC recordings, they were holding short of 28L, just left of the threshold and were preparing for the departure... it could have been a major disaster if those 2 collided.

Re: Crash at SFO! Asiana Airlines Boeing 777
according to FR24 data the plane was only doing 111kt's on short final. That is not a lot for a t7..

Depends if it is ground speed or airspeed...Tomskii wrote:according to FR24 data the plane was only doing 111kt's on short final. That is not a lot for a t7..
edit : apparently slight wind (<10 kts), so indeed very low speed, airspeed or groundspeed...
