US Airways flight US751 to Philadelphia, operated by Boeing 757-200 reg. N203UW, indeed turned around above Ireland and then circled over KERKY to burn fuel before safely landing in BRU. The nature of the problem is still unknown. The flight is cancelled.

The reason for the gears being down is probably as easy as this:
They probably wanted to add as much drag as possible to get the weight down to Max Landing Weight as fast as possible.

The reason for the diversion is hard to say. But considering they turned around above Ireland and flew all the way back, suggests it's probably a problem with being in agreement with the procedures to fly over the North Atlantic. Flying quite some holding patterns above Belgium, combined with the decision to not divert to the nearest airport, suggests it's not something medical at least.

Hello,

A lot of planes are holding above FLORA.
Current runway in use: Arriving runway 25L,25R. Departing runway 25R.
In the morning, runway in use was: Arriving and departing runway 19.

Greetings,
Wouter

P.S. Runway changes still possible in the afternoon.
When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No-one has ever collided with the sky.

Website of Ostend airport is showing a transavia flight HV171 Tenerife-OST and back.
Accoring to the Transavia website this flightnumber corresponds to a AMS-CFU flight.
Can someone shed some light on this Transavia rotation at OST and the flightnumbering?

From The Aviation Herald:

Incident: SAS B738 near Brussels on Nov 9th 2013, electrical smell from aft galley

A SAS Scandianvian Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration LN-RRF performing flight SK-7320 from Las Palmas,CI (Spain) to Trondheim (Norway) with 164 passengers, was enroute at FL380 about 50nm west of Brussels (Belgium) when the crew reported an electrical odour from the aft galley and decided to divert to Brussels. The aircraft landed safely on runway 25R about 21 minutes after leaving FL380.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration LN-RPM departed Brussels the following morning and reached Trondheim with a delay of 14 hours.

That seems a very long wait. I hope that the passengers got accommodation in Brussels.

US750 PHL - BRU diverted to DUB on 27th and came later to BRU.
In the returnflight, US751 BRU - PHL, it seems that they had to divert again to Lajes airport according to a picture on airliners.net

BEL463 to KGL (OO-SFZ) made a u-turn over Eupen, entered a holding pattern above FLORA (probably to burn fuel) and landed in BRU at 12:00.

Now he seems to be stopped at the two thirds of 25R (assistance?).

Aegean flight A3621 took off from RWY19 right now, and OO-SND is about to do the same, so OO-SFZ is probably receiving assistance at the end of 25R.
