Re: Alitalia saved by the Government and reborn as ITA

Post by sn26567 »

Alitalia is running out of cash just as negotiations with the EU to create a new national carrier are at a standstill. On the line are the €3 billion Italy is ready to inject into the new company.

The airline paid only half of the March salaries in order to save cash.

The EU wants the new company to start from scratch, whereas Italy wants to transfer aircraft, slots, etc. from Alitalia to ITA for free.

To add to Alitalia's problems the EU is forcing them to reduce their share of LIN slots from 67% to 50%. Volotea have already got some summer slots there and there's talk of Ryanair and Wizzair taking some too.

ITA – Italia Trasporto Aereo may have indeed to sell more slots at Milan Linate airport in exchange for aid and public loans for over €10 billion.

Italy’s Minister of Transport, Enrico Giovannini asks the EU not to block the public rescue of Alitalia (Italy) since it authorized the French state aid to Air France.

ITA Italia Trasporti Aereo could incur a cost of €500 million in five years — including lost revenues and extra marketing expenses — if it were to launch without the Alitalia brand.
