Also I am surprised that no reaction from the unions @ AZ because downsizing from 130 to 30 planes / 11500 to 4000 employees is a huge blow!!!

Largely quoted in the press. And the EU said that any state aid to Alitalia should be according to EU competition rules.brusselsairlinesfan wrote: ↑15 Apr 2020, 02:43Real facts or rumours ?TLspotting wrote: ↑13 Apr 2020, 14:14First news were 30 aircraft out of 134, with 4000 employees out of 11500.brusselsairlinesfan wrote: ↑10 Apr 2020, 02:51 How could could look the scaled down Alitalia?

Still... but with a new Alitalia starting with 30 planes only, I fail to understand why this does not generate much réactions or protests...
Indeed, AZ with 30 planes only would be a blow!
Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
The new state-owned Alitalia starts early June. There will be 90 planes in the fleet, down from 113 but more than expected.
No codesharing with Delta & Skyteam.

According to Stefano Patuanelli, Italy’s Minister for Economic Development, AZ will leave Skyteam on May 21 and will be looking at different options with regards to alliances. It will have a fleet of about 90 planes with at least 30 per cent long-haul. He also said it is very difficult to see a scenario with zero layoffs

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
The tab for the Italian taxpayer is increasing, and not a little: Italy’s government will inject at least €3 billion fresh capital into Alitalia, laying out the plan for the nationalisation of the ailing carrier. The government plans to place 6,622 Alitalia workers on a temporary layoff scheme until October 2020.

EU Commissioner Vestager would like that all airlines compete themselves to death. So she won't allow this zillionth state aid to Alitalia. And contrary to previous state aid, the corona-state-aid-cases must get approval before pay-out.

Italy may have to review the plan to nationalise and relaunch Alitalia if the proposal does not obtain EU approval. The current plan was deemed as “not acceptable”.

Alitalia had €240 million in its coffers on 31 May 2020, says the government, who prepares to take over an airline that has burned through cash in the pandemic.
Question: is that 240 million all that's left after the latest cash injection of €3 billion?
