Re: Alitalia saved by the Government and reborn as ITA

Post by cathay belgium »

Hi,

I just read here lots of ......

Just because Italy has more balls to save AZ then that Belgium had to save Sabena...
Lots of stupid jealousy here in this topic !

So Italy can't put money into it's national airline and has to give it all away to airlines like Kneekiller Wizz or the daily superfunded airlines from the Middle East ?

Fair competition uhu ??

Sabena is over,Malev is over, get over it...

Luckily Italy won't make the same mistakes as Belgium, it sees hundreds of people regretting this mistake in the future..

A G7 country which is overwhelmed and with only choice Wizz of FR ? No thx !

And such opinions are politics , weren't members told to keep away for politici opinions

And are we anno 2020 against superfundings from States ?? Lufthansa , Air France , KLM, TAP,.. how many millions more ??

SN ? It's a loan ? Yes, when will they repay ?
They never made real money .. never...

But are we against it ? Belgium need it ? why ?
Because we are the heart of Europe and we have NATO HQ ?
Nope..same story...

Well,...

The fact that the Italian Government is doing everything to keep the airline afloat, is enough reason to talk about politics in this topic.

Indeed, but today all governments ! are trying to keep their airlines afloat...
So surely almost no difference with other airlines now...

Maybe you can better discuss it on an european view..
Why,how and when can/might countries help their aviation and is there a economical reason to save them.

Don't say these are loans... It will take a long time when these will be relais, if ever..
Or why not NOT helping them and overwhelm europe with Easyjet,FR,Wizz,.. they also will also fly those routes with less comfort and less -proper paid- people but they will make money out of it...

Guess these opinions could have reason in the beginning of the year but became total irrelevant by now..
Offcourse regret all of this...

Alitalia newco (aka ITA) is looking for aviation alliances with either Lufthansa Group or Air France-KLM as possible partners.

EU Commission has asked for a series of clarifications on the operation that should lead to the newco ITA, which will take over the assets of Alitalia.

Italy would have to drop the 75-year-old Alitalia brand if it wants the European Commission to approve plans to relaunch the airline. The brand is an emblematic indicator of continuity, said the EU.

Italia Trasporti Aereo now plans to launch operations in mid-summer 2021 with only 43 planes and 4,400 employees, downsizing the newco Alitalia from previous plans of 52 aircraft and 5,200 employees. There is a risk of further delay and downsizing.

Italy’s government is considering taking back control of Alitalia via the subsidiary Cityliner, and then bring Lufthansa into its capital.

And the soap continues:

Italy’s government confirms the plan to have “a national air transport carrier” born from the collapse of Alitalia. However, the plan does not clarify how the government intends to deal with the crisis of Alitalia, which ran out of cash and postponed the payment of February 2021 salaries.

Alitalia will now start with 45 planes, have around 4,500 workers and get just over €1 billion in state support, less than half of what was previously envisaged.

Thanks to André Orban for his summary today of the latest plans for Alitalia. Finally the Italians seem to have right idea and just focus on profitable routes. Fumicino will be the hub and Linate a small focus airport. Thankfully they have acknowledged the importance of connecting with Italy's superb high-speed rail network, Fumicino station will have to be expanded to handle these trains. It all points to setting ITA up to become part of Lufthansa's multi-hub network.

Alitalia (Italy) has yet to secure EU approval to relaunch as a new airline, as Europe demands the carrier give up a significant number of airport slots.
