Yet another 737 MAX problem? Boeing has asked 16 of its customers to address a potential production issue related to an electrical power system in certain B737 MAX jets prior to further operations.

At Southwest Airlines, 30 of the airline’s 58 MAX jets are affected. Ouch! The measure also affects 16 United Airlines aircraft and 17 American Airlines planes.

There will be hundreds of other "problems" with the 737MAX. Just like for any other plane.
There is nothing abnormal in publishing AD's for planes in service. The only abnormal thing is the "surprise" and wow effect that it creates because it is... the MAX.

Welcome to Aviation24.be, Lux_avi.

It's not every day that an aircraft model is grounded. Admittedly, not all MAX's are affected (only some more recent ones), but the model seems prone to attract problems. The fact that only recently built aircraft are affected tells a lot about the bad evolution of Boeing in the last few years.

You think?

Then look at how many AD's are already in force for other recently built models, then we'll talk again.

Turkish Airlines said the delivery dates of 13 B737 MAX aircraft, which have not yet been delivered, were rescheduled. Also, the carrier has until the end of 2021 to exercise its options to convert 40 MAX into firm orders, after cancelling 10 MAX.

Boeing faces more electrical problems with the B737 MAX, after the grounding of some jets revealed problems in two other places on the flight deck.

In other news, Boeing order book changes for March 2021 show an unidentified customer ordered three B737 MAX and a business jet/VIP customer ordered one B737 MAX.

Caribbean Airlines of Trinidad & Tobago has opted not to exit its contract to lease 12 B737-8s, after being presented the opportunity without penalty. All leases for the nine existing aircraft have been extended for at least another year until the carrier can take receipt of the MAX aircraft

Timaero Ireland and Boeing proceedings will continue in the federal court in Washington State, as they look to resolve their B737 MAX contract.

Southwest Airlines ended 1Q 2021 with 730 aircraft in its fleet, including 61 MAX 8 aircraft. During 1Q 2021, the carrier took delivery of 20 MAX 8 aircraft, comprised of 12 owned and 8 leased aircraft. Southwest expects delivery of eight more MAX 8 aircraft in 2021. Also during 1Q, Southwest returned eight leased B737-700s to lessors and expects to retire up to nine more B737-700s in 2021. Alaska Airlines expects by the end of 2022, it will have another 39 MAX 9s replacing the A319s and A320s that were retired from service in 2020. Alaska also expects the temporary grounding to be lifted in early May 2021.

Southwest Airlines is in the final stages of obtaining ETOPS certification for its MAX 8 fleet, which will reduce the operating cost to Hawaii and allow the carrier to fill all 175 seats in the winter. Also, Southwest plans to begin retiring roughly 30 to 35 B737-700s per year, beginning in 2022.

Boeing ordered by the FAA to fix bonding issues in the electrical systems of some of its B737 MAX planes that could lead to a loss of engine ice protection loss and critical functions on the flight deck. The FAA said the issue affected 109 airplanes worldwide delivered to airlines, including 71 in the US.

Boeing has been asked by US air safety officials to supply fresh analysis and documentation showing that numerous B737 MAX subsystems would not be affected by electrical grounding issues first flagged in three areas of the jet in April 2021.

Spirit AeroSystems expects to deliver about 160 shipsets, or complete sets of parts, for B737 MAX jets in 2021, even as the planemaker has stopped deliveries due to an electric problem.

Comair business rescue practitioners are negotiating with Boeing about cancelling its 2013 purchase agreement of eight B737 MAX planes. The rescue practitioners will only exit once there has been a substantial implementation of the rescue plan.
