Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Ed Bastian hinted at the possibility of purchasing B737 MAX, which was recently approved to fly again by US regulators.

Citibank to lend Copa Airlines approximately $327 million for the purchase of several B737 MAX 9s.

China’s CAA will not yet allow B737 MAX jet to fly in the country owing to lingering safety concerns, despite the FAA lifting a ban on commercial flights.

Europe is set to lift its flight ban on the B737 MAX in January 2021 after US regulators last week ended a 20-month grounding.

UAE’s GCAA has confirmed that it is evaluating the return of the B737 MAX to the country, and its specialists are working with their counterparts in the US and EU.

Alaska Airlines signs up to take 13 more 737 MAX aircraft, leasing them from Air Lease Corp. This adds to the 32 on order directly from Boeing.

Apart from the sale of 75 737 MAX 8-200 to Ryanair reported on the main page, Boeing is closing in on two key milestones in the comeback of its B737 MAX: the jet’s return to regular service and the first delivery, wither to United Airlines or American Airlines.

GOL expects to resume MAX flights on 10 December 2020, with other airlines to quickly follow.

Lessor CDB Aviation announced the company has completed the financing for eight of the nine B737 MAX 8s under the purchase and leaseback agreement with WestJet. The ninth aircraft is anticipated to close in December 2020.

Somon Air of Tajikistan hopes to secure a deal for two B737 MAX 8s and two MAX 10 options before the end of 2020. The MAX 8s arriving from summer 2021, to help the airline expand its network to China, South Korea and parts of Western Europe.

Brazilian LCC GOL is on track to be the first airline in the world to re-introduce Boeing 737 MAX-family aircraft on revenue routes on Dec. 9, part of the airline’s plan to add more cost-friendly capacity for its upcoming peak demand season. By the end of December, all seven B737 MAX in GOL’s current fleet should be cleared to return fully to operation.

Meanwhile, Boeing CEO David Calhoun has ruled out removing the MAX name from its B737.

Boeing has delivered a B737 MAX to United Airlines, the first of eight to the carrier in 2020 and the first MAX delivered since the grounding was lifted.

Boeing said it logged more cancellations than orders for its B737 MAX in November 2020 (and it delivered seven aircraft during the month). Boeing said it lost orders for 17 B737 MAXs from unidentified customers, while Air Lease and Air Canada scrubbed orders for 23 jets.

Virgin Australia Group has reached an agreement with Boeing to restructure its B737 MAX order and delivery schedule. The restructured order book now consists of 25 B737 MAX 10 which are scheduled for delivery from mid-2023. The airline will no longer receive the MAX 8. Widebodies will be eventually reintroduced.

Boeing is hiring up to 160 pilots to be embedded at airlines in its latest bid to ensure its B737 MAX has a smooth comeback.

SunExpress expects to take delivery of its first B737 MAX in late 2021 after postponing deliveries. All 42 MAX will now arrive by 2028/29 and may be used for growth or replacement. Compensation from Boeing is still pending.

Transport Canada is set to announce the approval of design changes to B737 MAX very soon, in a first step toward bringing the aircraft back to the country’s skies.

Boeing officials “inappropriately coached” test pilots during recertification efforts after two B737 MAX crashes, according to a US congressional report.

EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky is “certain” the B737 Max is now safe to fly, as the organisation had “left no stone unturned” in its review of the aircraft and its analysis of design changes.

GOL to restart its B737 MAX operations very soon following test flights over the last few days.

Southwest Airlines allegedly jeopardized the safety of thousands of flights by forcing its pilots to fly beyond the limits of safety recommended by Boeing for operating the airline’s fleet of B737 aircraft, says FAA report.

United Airlines became the latest carrier to announce a timeframe to fly the B737 MAX again, saying the jet would resume flights in February 2021.

Alaska Airlines is buying 23 more B737 MAX 9s from Boeing, plus adding 15 options, bringing Alaska’s total MAX orders and options to 120 aeroplanes. Alaska is scheduled to receive 13 planes in 2021; 30 in 2022; 13 in 2023; and 12 in 2024, thus allowing the airline to exit 61 short-term leases for its ex-Virgin America Airbus fleet. Alaska’s 52 aircraft options are for deliveries between 2023-26. Alaska will reduce its Airbus fleet to 10 A321neos by summer 2023. Alaska plans to begin revenue service with its first 737-9 in March 2021, with five additional aircraft expected to begin flying by summer 2021.

US lawmakers are expected to vote to approve landmark reforms on how the government certifies new aeroplanes are safe in the wake of two B737 MAX crashes.

Boeing 737 MAX crash victim families urge the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to hold off on lifting ban.
In a letter to EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky and in comments filed with the agency, relatives and friends of Ethiopian Airlines crash victims said it should first finish its analysis of the modified aircraft and complete its safety report on the crash. They urged EASA to explain why Boeing’s changes make the aircraft safe and to require that it increase the plane’s safety margins by implementing a third Angle of Attack sensor. They also called for redesigning the flight deck and crew alert system “to meet modern safety standards,” among other steps.

Earlier, they also told the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Federal Aviation that the plane is still unsafe.
