OK.
Looking for an investor doesn't mean that it is a bad affiliate.
We could translate this as " AF needs money and tries to make some money by selling assets"

... except that Cityjet, like its parent Air France, makes heavy losses. Air France should not expect too high a price for the shares of Cityjet that it will be able to sell, if any...

Air France KLM might sell CityJet

Post by sn26567 »

Air France KLM reportedly hired Key Capital to find a buyer for its subsidiary CityJet, according to the Irish edition of the Sunday Times. Since late spring, there are a lot of rumours about the future of the entity registered in Ireland, which holds nearly a quarter of the slots of London City Airport.

CityJet operated at the end of 2011 a total of 22 Avro RJ85 aircraft. The rumours don't say a word about the fate and the F50s of the former VLM Airlines that was merged into CityJet.

The airline has not been included in the Air France "Transform 2015" plan, prompting unions to question the future of the CityJet group.

Cityjet, like its parent Air France, makes heavy losses
yet I seem to remember VLM was always profitable, before its integration into CityJet?
Was that a just-in-time operation, perhaps, bad times having been sighted in time?

Hello

Hmm you got it right Regi, the focus point is sure not anymore on the airline issue ;).
I can honestly say I work for it (or at least the loosing party in the story - VLM) and for sure just as you guys I can only hope for a good ending, with or without CityJet/Air France. The story simply is that right now no-one knows how things will go.

Oh and just for the record , just one thing ... believe me as I say the Fokker 50 will be around for quite some time, that is as long as untill the moment the aviation authorities ground them for reasons of being TOO old, which by this time is far from that. There simply is no reason to that .. ok they are old and yes they require quite some maintenance, but if done properly they are still fine machines (after all, till some years ago .. would you have some luxury in those old busses you drove in to/from work daily? , .. well that's kinda the same story) , as long as it is safe ;). And I think I can be honestly and proudly say that our Fokker 50's (for the little amount still in service in EU) sure have to be of the better maintained (overall) around in Europe as we did a lot of new efforts and updates in keeping them as safe and up to date as possible. So wouldn't worry about the aircraft issue as for the moment, not at least for the next couple of years.
New plane would be nice but as mentioned before, AF wouldn't put the money on table anyway, even if we where up to it ... not untill everyone has made up it's business and we know what course we are going to go (and what costs to expect).

Oh and about the runway issue at Antwerp ... well the runway will for sure NOT be extended, it will only legally be restored to it's full useable length of 1510m. Now the runway is just as long as it will be after the works are done, only now the full runway lengt cannot be used, something like -400m. There will be a several hundred (believe something like 300-450m or so) 'safety runway length' that is either in concrete or grass behind every side of the runway (runway 11 side has this already) so that in an event of a aborted take-off you have this lengt extra to roll out, now you have to subract this safety length from the runway length you use ... ;). Just to put out a couple of figures ... YES London City has a runway even a couple of metres shorter then ours in Antwerp, and YES it has daily ops of EMB-195 and A318 executive, so yes a lot more is possible in Antwerp even with the short runway, it's just up to the airport to break open possibilities ;).

Best regards, Yannick ;)

Air France has received some 20 bids and will look further into 4 or 5 of them. The companies involved will have the right to look into the dataroom. The process should be completed in the first quarter or half of 2013.

An interesting remark: Air France paid a lot of money (200 million euros) to acquire VLM, due to the high value of its London City slots. Air France will take a loss of 168 million euros on the value of VLM, in order to present a clean book before the sale of CityJet.

Air France to reduce CityJet bidders to two

Air France intends to shortlist two preferred bidders for its Irish airline subsidiary CityJet by the end of next month. These groups would then go head to head to acquire the Swords-based regional airline.

Ten groups had expressed an interest in the airline. Six of these were subsequently given access to CityJet’s future business plan, including its aircraft fleet, its network out of London City, its wet-lease operations for Air France and its charter business.

This list is now to be whittled down to two bidders by the end of next month and they will then be asked to submit final bids.

Air France took control of the airline in 2000. CityJet bought Belgian rival VLM in 2007 and has a fleet of 38 aircraft operating more than 480 flights a week.

Air France-KLM nears decision on CityJet

Air France-KLM is in talks with “two to three” potential bidders for Irish regional CityJet and will decide on the divestment by July. It might also decide to keep it within the group after a restructuring programme.

The Irish ASL Aviation and the German Intro Aviation are the final two selected for a possible take over of CityJet. Interesting to note, ASL Aviation (also owning Europe Airpost and Air Contractors to name some) is partly owned (51%) by CMB (Compagnie Maritime Belge, an Antwerp-based company)... :P

That's a good reason to keep the Belgian registration of half of the fleet...! :)

ASL also tried to take control of the TNT airlines... I believe them to be a very good option for the future of Cityjet and not because their head offices are only 15 minute walk apart.

Not exactly. After the take-over bid of UPS on TNT, ASL was contacted by TNT as a potential suitor for the airline because UPS would have been compelled to sell it.
