Indeed: Boeing on Saturday announced it had suspended load testing of its new widebody 777X aircraft as media reports said a cargo door failed in a ground stress test.

The Seattle Times reported a cargo door exploded outward during a high-pressure stress test on the ground. The newspaper said the accident occurred on a static test airplane, which is built for ground testing only and not intended to fly.

Boeing does not expect the root-cause assessment in B777X load testing will have a significant impact on aircraft design or on the overall test programme schedule.

Boeing B777-8 entry into service date will depend partly on customer demand, with the planemaker hoping to win an order from Qantas to supply the plane for Sydney-London flights.

The degradation of travel conditions continues: British Airways plans to retrofit 10-abreast seating to more B777s as the carrier refurbishes its aircraft.

British Airways wants to phase out three B777-200s in 2020, replacing them with three B777-300ERs on operating lease. However, some of the B777-200 fleet will stick around until at least 2030

Boeing has abandoned a key automation system used to make fuselage sections for its B777 jetliners amid reports of reliability issues, and will instead partially switch back to mechanics.

Qantas
said Boeing has offered a stopgap deal in a bid to persuade the airline to select its delayed B777X plane for planned direct flights from Australia to New York and London. Details were not disclosed.

Aircraft is taxiing back to the stall. Weather (wind) is too bad for a first flight.
