Rolls-Royce has extended an exclusive deal to provide engines for the A350-900 to 2030, cementing its alliance with Airbus and deferring a potential challenge from rival GE.

Hello,

Airbus is said to be thinking about creating a cargo version of the A350. From my point of view it might be a good idea. The place is there, the autonomy too and the costs would be lower. When we see that Ethiopian or Virgin mainly use A350s for freight flights, it is a practical plane for freight (both companies have 787s but do not use them for freight so it is 'A350 has better performance)

There is only 1 direct comparison for the A350 and that is the B777. But indeed there is some opportunity for Airbus to make its way into the civilian heavy freighter market. The B747 fleet is aging fast and production is stopped. So there will be a market opening up for them. Although I would rather see a new Special Freighter type with over-sized cargo capacity, but that is because of personal preference :P ;)

Airbus is poised to begin taking orders for a freighter version of its A350 twin-aisle as soon as July 2021, provided it can line up enough firm commitments. The programme could officially launch by 2021-end.

Cathay Pacific is working with Airbus to introduce “reduced crew” long-haul flights with a sole pilot in the cockpit much of the time. Project Connect, aims to certify its A350 jet for single-pilot operations during high-altitude cruise, starting in 2025.

Cargolux is analysing both the B777X freighter and the newly launched (at Dubai Airshow) A350F, the latter being the suspected winner.

CMA CGM Group and Airbus have signed a binding MOU for the purchase of four A350F aircraft. The order is subject to finalization in the coming weeks.
