The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines installed on the first flight-test Airbus A350 XWB have run for the first time.
Airbus powered up the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines on the first flight-test A350 XWB (which it calls MSN1) on June 2 after starting up the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU), as part of the preparations for the aircraft’s maiden flight.
Take a look at the video of the first run of the engines on the A350 :

I'm surprised about how wide the wheel axles are...looks like there's 2 meters between the main wheels.

Any news on date of the first flight?

True, but i like the look of it. But why are the nose wheel doors open. They weren't open when the plane was rolled out.Desert Rat wrote:I'm surprised about how wide the wheel axles are...looks like there's 2 meters between the main wheels.

Re: Airbus A350 news
Don't you think the A350 looks much modern as theB787?
Re: Airbus A350 news
In my eyes, not really. The only thing I do like about the 350, are the winglets. But then again, I love the 787's raked wingtips.
And to be honest, the black mask around the windows looks like a joke. Also, the teeth ong the GEnx really makes them look modern, and stand out from the crowd.
But then again, I don't think it's a secret that I'm not exactly a fan of Airbus...

You can say what you want, but the A350 looks sleek, where as the 787 looks a bit fat. But we will have to wait untill the 787-9 rolls out to compare the two. This Airbus is the middle child of the series while the current 787 is the Baby version.
Conclussion: They both look good, but i'm a bit of an Airbusman, so go A350.
Re: Airbus A350 news
I agree on the engines. They look very A380-stylish, while (in my opinion) the combination of the 787-wings and engines looks better and more modern.
I don't really like the nose and tail sections either (with tail section I don't mean the horizontal and vertical stabilizers) and the landing gear looks a bit strange. But it's still a nice aircraft
The 787-8 is a fat one, but a nice fat one, I believe the 787-9 is going to look really great, as well as the 787-10 (but probably the 787-9 will be the nicest, the -10 is probably going to leek very long/thin)

Would be nice if they succeed, Le Bourget starts on the 17th, so a fly by could be possible if they can make their first flight next week.brusselsairlinesfan wrote:Sorry, in french only but interesting :

Re: Airbus A350 news
Despite the nearing A359 first flight, a bit less good news. Tunisair seems to be the next in the row to cancell their A350-800 order. Already several other airlines converted their order for the -800 to the -900, but Tunisair has dissapeared from the whole A350 orderbook. Though were are talking about just 3 aircraft.
This means the total amount of ordered -800's drops to 89.

Today Airbus has started A350 braking tests at various speeds on the runway at Toulouse as part of pre-flight preparations.

Re: Airbus A350 news
Altough I'm a boeing man, this type is way nicer as a dreamliner and finally they made something that looks how a plane must be...
( I said nothing about technical performances btw )

New types flown 2022.. A339
Re: Airbus A350 news
I'm a Boeing man as well, but I don't agree on this one. I like the A300, A333 and A340 (all versions except the -200) much more than the A350 (just based on the looks). I do like some modern things of the A350, especially the wings, but I don't really like it as a whole, not in the extent I like some of their previous widebodies.cathay belgium wrote:Altough I'm a boeing man, this type is way nicer as a dreamliner and finally they made something that looks how a plane must be...

According to an article in Le Point, the Airbus A350 XWB will make its first flight on Thursday 13 June at 10:00, a 4-hour flight from Toulouse towards the Pyrénées mountains or over the Atlantic Ocean. If it successfully flies during more than 10 hours, it will make a flyover at the Paris Air Show around 22 June.

Eurocontrol says French ATC strike will be lasting from 0400G on 11th to 0400G on 14th. And LFBO (Toulouse) is among airports to get "minimum service". Let's hope that the Airbus A350 will get "priority service" !
Another potential problem: Meteo France is forecasting some blustery wind, especially on Thursday.

Re: Airbus A350 news
The French ATC strike might finally delay the maiden flight of the A350 until Friday the 14th, when the strike will be over.
However, these plans are subject to the weather and the outcome of a final set of ground trials being performed now.
