In addition or in replacement of Hahn ... that's the question ...
Well, nothing fantastic. It's "just" an upgrade from B737 to A300 on an existing route. Yet another outsourced route from TNT.

CARGO traffic at Liege plummeted by 20 per cent in September 2012, compared with the same period last year.

Belgium’s largest cargo airport handled 43,215 tonnes of freight, a spokesperson reveals.

The facility’s latest figures comes after it recorded an 18 per cent drop in August.

The spokesperson blamed the recent departure of two major USA carriers Kalitta Air and Southern - which switched to Leipzig Airport - for the "significant decrease" in traffic.

Liège will not get the international exposition of 2017. Astana (Kazakhstan) was selected instead. The power of oil?

A pity for the traffic at Liège airport.

Astana oil more powerful than Liège siderurgy : hardly surprising ...

Ah, them poor Wallo-Bruxians, be assured of my Flemish solidarity! But perhaps we should discuss aviation rather than the harsh world of economics?

When I opened this topic I had in view the possible developments of Liège airport thanks to an Intenational Exposition!

I don't believe that this expo would have brought anything positive for Liège airport ...
Let's face it, if such an expo is hapening in Eindhoven, Dusseldorf or Luxembourg, i'm not sure that the people of Liège would drive 2h to see an "Eco village" ... it's not exactly sexy enough.
If it's true for a 2h drive, it's certainly true for a flight. I really doubt any airline would create new connection just for that kind of temporary event.
What bring positive impact are the existing sport events : european footboal matches, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the F1 GP, that has a real impact. Every year.
I am quite happy that Liège didn't get this "joke". It would have been a lot of money spend for something very dull. Those politics cannot focus on 2 things in the same time, so now that it is out of the way, they can do real interesting stuff : good marketing on what they already have and should bring more visitors (biggest Christmas market in Belgium, biggest kermess in Belgium, the rich concentration of museums (curtius, ...), being a tourism gateway for the ardennes, ...).
Plus the fact that Liège is a cargo airport ... if you want to help it, eat one mango per day.

Liège airport: fire (or not ...) on board a plane carrying toxic products

A cargo plane carrying toxic products for TNT made an emergency landing at the airport of Liège this Tuesday morning. The pilot thought there was a fire on board. Firefighters found out that the plane was not on fire. The false alarm was in reality simply due to a faulty smoke detector.

All cargo was removed off the plane as a precaution but nothing abnormal was found.

Excuse me to say that: your "news" title makes me mad !
This is just the way newspapers are reporting this sort of non-event. No fire, no drama, just a false alarm.
Nothing to do with the frightening headline.
The shi..y LDH were exactly using the same bad trick in order to add voyeurism touch and attract anti-aviation comments . So-called NIMBYism. :)

Vers L'Avenir.

As allways, The Aviation Herald has the details:

A Ukraine International Airlines 737-300, performing flight PS-31R from Liege to Vienna, was climbing through FL277 to FL350 out of Liege when the crew received multiple main deck cargo fire indications. The crew donned their oxygen masks, worked the cargo fire checklist and descended the aircraft to FL100. After levelling off at FL100 the fire indication disappeared, the crew could not notice any smoke/haze or smell any unusual odour. The crew nonetheless decided to return to Liege for a safe landing.

Seems like they never heard about dangerous goods cargo ops .... seriously, does the biggest press agency in Belgium not have 1 journalist who knows something about aviation? If not, they should just refrain from posting crap like that :?

The false rumours in the press could have been avoided if Liège Airport would have given correct information to journalists immediately when it happened. The refusal from LGG to give relevant details to journalists (airline's name, aircraft type) inspired their natural instict to assume that something went dearly wrong.

hmm, you have a point. Why would they not release such info?
Having said that, you would expect a journalist to check their sources

B-t-w Passenger, where did you read that LGG would have refused giving correct information.
What are you trying to prove...again ?

Just for information, message received from Liege-Airport on 27.11.2012 14.03

"Bonjour Monsieur,
