Man in Plane Sees His House Being Robbed!

Post by BigJets »

A Man and his pilot friend return from a fishing trip in their Cessna and decide to fly over his house to film and take a few pictures. To their surprise they noticed the house was being robbed. Using a cell phone (GSM) they called an uncle who arrived too late.
They also called the police. Using the aircraft to follow the thieves, they managed to guide the police and capture the thieves.
They pleaded "not guilty" DUH...

Not really, it's pretty common in some countries (like Canada for example..).

Cessna 150/170/180/185 are very popular bush flying aircraft, so I guess they are quite often used for fishing/hunting trips...

this is the price we pay for living in non dictatorial societies.
Strange that the 2 culprits were not demanding 50,000,000 $ or more because their privacy was damaged and their outlook for a professional carrier as house mover was tainted. :)

OK it may seem absurd that they plead not guilty, and I also had a chuckle and rolled my eyes when I read that.

But did they really have a choice? People respond to incentives. When you've got not much to loose, you'll likely take an uncertain path with tiny little chances of escaping, rather than a certain path to a dead-end without escape.

If these guys are ready to accept the risks of robbing houses, they'll definitely accept to take the comparatively smaller risk of trying to convince people they're not to blame for nothing. We all do risk assessments all the time. Obviously they've never been in a "fishing aircraft" before otherwise they would have known that the probability of having the aircraft flying over the house is significant.

If only they had been more attentive during their math classes about statistical probabilities they wouldn't be where they are now! You see, we have to blame the school now for not being authoritarian enough... Sue the teacher, he's responsible for it! I'm sure they'll find a lawyer ready to support that line of defense.
:D
