2 Q400's (wetleased)
Think that is about the whole planning for the next 2 years. So the 14 is correct...
Oh my. This is embarrassing. No vision, no common sense, this plan is completely useless.
The big handicap at SN is the Avro RJ and the lack of more lucrative long-haul.
No, instead they're going to invest in the retirement of the B737, add more A319/A320 overcapacity and costly wetleases, take some high seatmile cost 332's to operate on the transatlantic bloodbath routes.
Ah, as usual Flanker aka NCB disagrees with what's on the table...
No surprise really, as it's the only strategy I can find in the multitude of all his comments: i.e. a pathological desire to disagree with all SN and LH come up with.

As has become a pattern with Flanker, there's just too much BS posted at once to tackle all of it here, but just as a demonstration of how ill-informed the self-declared expert truely is and how full of negative conjecture he's analyis is once again, here's a little crumble to chew on, directly linked to this topic about the A332:

He's babbling about "some high seatmile-costs A332 operating on transtatlantic bloodbath routes" :?:
As everybody understands all too well by now, SN only needs 1 widebody plane for its planned daily transtatlantic flight, not 2 like is casually claims, yet more importanly even: it's utterly naive to assume that just because a plane joins the fleet at the time of the opening of a new destination, it is automatically that specific plane which is going to be used for that route.
Here's a little theoretical scenario just to illustrate a much better use of slightly smaller A332s within SNs fleet: currently, SN operates 5 times weekly (iso daily) to DKR after it was forced to discontinue the tag-on flights by the Senegalese government: replacing the A333 currently used with a slightly smaller A332 on the BRU-DKR route would allow SN to go back to daily flights, without increasing its total weekly capacity dramatically, while the larger A333 that comes off the 5 weekly DKR route could than be used to serve the USA on weekdays for instance. In short: SN gets to free a low seatmile cost A333 for its transatlantic route (thus not having to lease another one of these much searched after and highly expensive planes) and at the same time it can use a more optimized smaller A332 with a lower trip costs on a detriangled run to AFI thus allowing to increase frequency and yields on the route... My god, what a bad idea indeed!

On the occasion of their C checks this coming winter will the current A333s get new lie-flat business seats and upgraded IFE ?
Will be ex LX A332s's also get new lie-flat business seats and new IFE ?

All A330's (including the -200) will get the new interior with upgraded C and Y, wireless AVOD IFE with 15" screens in C and 9" screens in Y.

AFAIK the -300's will go in first followed by the -200's.

I assume that QA and QC are configured as 2-class planes (LX had 3-class -200's too)

Thanks, Bralo20, for this info. Do you also happen to know when these new upgrades will be performed and the upgrading of all A330s should be completed ?

If I am not mistaken, both IQA and IQC were 2 class A332, with 42 C class and 182 Y class seats.

SN uses less of a premium heavy configuration on its -300s with just 30 C class seats installed; if the same front cabin configuration were to be introduced on smaller -200s at SN, this would mean they'd get to install around 204 seats in Y class, which is not too bad if used on point-to-point routes, rather than triangulars. 8-)

That's not true, One A330 went to Royal Air Maroc first after it went to TAP

I am sorry to correct you, but what you say is not true. OE-LAM, the aircraft we are talking about, was leased for about 3 to 4 weeks to Royal Air Maroc. That was in 2001! Returned to OS, went to TP in summer 2007.

I guess the longer legs of the A330-200 will be of benefit on the longer Africa stretches such as FIH and Great Lakes region. One wonders if you can actually carry more weight on the -200 than on the original -300 even if the volume may be more limited with the -200 than with the -300.

Is there more money from the weight factor or from the volume factor in cargo?

A fleet of 7 A330's is a rather nice number for 2012, we're still coming from just 3 not so long ago.

Overall I still expect the average size of an aircraft to increase at SN, while the total number of units remains stable or even decreases a bit, it is more economical to operate larger capacity, as long as you can fill it decently enough of course.

Can they reach Johannesburg or Cape Town with the A330-200?

They should be able to, SA operates the -200 to Europe. ( not sure whether PW versus RR makes a difference) Whether SN really want to go back into the extremely competitive South African market is another question. Compared to the other other markets that SN operate to in Africa I would imagine the yields to JNB/CPT would not be great, and because of the sector lengths and the fact that pax tend to prefer overnight sectors in both directions utilisation can be quite problematic to South Africa.

However the would have a monopoly position in Belgium, and South Africa is still a big market. Or will they eventually use Korongo for that? Time will tell.

First A333 (SFV if I recall correctly) is going for C check in November and will then be ferried to LH Technics in Malta for the cabin upgrade. All other A333's will follow and in the end the A332's will go for a new cabin.

All A333's should be completed by April/May and the A332's by the end of 2012.

Note that the A332's have already personal IFE in each seat (C and Y) so it is already an improvement compared to the A333's ;)

 HB-IQA will be ferried (in SN colors OR all white (to be confirmed)) from MAN back to ZRH on 15th September for end of line checks.

Thanks for the info, HighInTheSky.

I will disagree with Kiwiandrew on one point : all people I know and who fly economy class, prefer daytime flights over night flights.

Why do you think that? These two A332's will come this winter, first to operate as replacement for the A333's that go in maintenance, and in summer 2012 they'll start operations to the US and flights to AFI (either new routes, or more frequenties or more non-stop). So at least one new long haul destination at the beginning of summer 2012 (the US route).

Well, it's a rumour, not a fact ofcourse... ;) I take it for granted the moment SN releases a press statement...

Yes of course, if all rumours of the past years about SN would be true we would already have a second Swiss here in BRU (network/fleet).
We can only wait and see what will come out of the b-house in the comming months.
