Fokker 100 progress

Post by chornedsnorkack »

The news about subsidy approval were some time ago. Now more news:

For the Flemish speakers here - what exactly is due to fly in 2013? Prototype test flights, or regular services?

They are not talking about flying, just that the prototype will be ready in 2013.

I have a great deal of difficulty in believing that it will be viable to resurrect a frame which has been out of production for around 14 years. IIRC the F100 was pretty heavy for it's size, partly because Fokker liked to build "robust" aircraft, that was fine when fuel prices were much lower, but now, even with new generation engines it seems improbable that a resurrected Fokker/Rekkof will succeed.

I'm sure it will have as much to do with the old F100 as the 737NG has to do with the classics.

Also note that the F100 has 107 seats in a single class configuration, while this new version is said to carry 120 passengers.

Not that it's really comparable, but the Twin Otter has restarted production with a modernized version after 20 years.

I always said that the Rekkof will never take off.
But I meant just a newly build F-100. ( with the old toolings)
On the other hand, everything is possible with a completely new aircraft.
Dutch subcontracting companies are deeply frustrated about the subsidies that the new company receives. There are signs that manufacturing will be done in a low cost country. ( China, Brasil ) . It is not even sure if the new company will just build subassemblies as a direct competitor of the Dutch company Stork.
So why should a Dutch tax payer fork out money to support an activity abroad competing against a Dutch company?
I see it even in a European environment. State subsidies for manufacturing outside Europe?

Embraer is looking for what to do themselves in response to Boeing 737MAX.

Could Rekkof merge with Embraer?

I think that there is something in that direction. Could be anything. Just a manufacturing site to supply fuselage parts to Embraer.
But imagine this : that Rekkof and Embraer develop together a specific version of the E-195, let it be assembled in China or India and call it ...Fokker100NG !
It would not be the first time that an airplane changes its name cfr B717.

Which engine does F100NG use?

Could PW1215G fit on F100NG?

I don't know exactly the engines, but those engines are the same as the engines of a Gulfstream V.

Rekkof does not say, but Gulfstream supplied two BR725' s to them.

Not yet, they got a Dutch subsidy. But I can imagine that European ( and USA/Canadian) watchdogs will keep a very close eye in this .

Forget about the Fokker F-100, and please wellcome the Fokker F-120 NG.

There is just one minor detail which has to be arranged: the 500 mio Euro, needed for the development and the prototype(s), because the loan from the Dutch government (20 mio Euro) isn't enough.

Looks really cool and I am sure it would be a very comfortable plane, much better than any of those CRJ or Embraers! Whether or not it would be as efficient, I really can't tell, and I suppose that is the main question here.

Another question: that bridge, where is that?
To me it looks like the bridge you see when taking off from Copenhagen, but then what does Rekkof have to do with Denmark?

Indeed in Denmark: it is the Great Belt Bridge (Storebæltsbroen) , between Zealand and Funen. I guess the airplane is just fotoshopped inside for the nice view.

Only the bridge is real. The aircraft is virtual.

Netherlands Aircraft Company (NAC) now has plans (on paper) for a so called high density Fokker 100 with a 28″ seat pitch configuration. Capacity will then be 138 seats.

I wonder which airline(s) would be interested in a 28" seat pitch...

Spirit Airlines in the US.

And Brussels Airlines for the three last rows of their reconfigured A320s...
