It seems SN is introducing an extra BRU-KGL-EBB-BRU rotation as from 1 june (on Friday). As a result Entebbe will be served 4 weekly and Kigali 5 weekly (4 times in combination with EBB and once in combination with NBO).

It seems to be a measurment to fight back against airlines like Qatar Airways that recently started flights to Kigali and/or Entebbe.

http://www.guide2uganda.com/news/487/Br ... bbe-Uganda

https://wolfganghthome.wordpress.com/20 ... lf-giants/

According to that second source SN also started to increase their promotion around their upcomming JFK flights, offering a one stop connection between Kigali/Entebbe and JFK.
It is also said that a further increase is currently ruled out until new long haul aircraft arrive, according to a source in SN.

EBB previously already had 4 weekly flights, is it permanent this time or seasonal again? For KGL I think it's the first time they are at 5 weekly.

Isn't the increase of the KGL flights rather a response to KLM? It seemed rather odd that the Belgian flag carrier was flying less often to Rwanda (with which Belgium has special ties) than the Dutch flag carrier. It would be like SN flying more often to Djakarta or Paramaribo than KL...

Probably that's one of the reasons. But don't underestimate the competition of airlines like Qatar on the East/Central-African market.

QR for the moment is of no significance between BRU and KGL. Unfortunately for them, their return KGL-DOH-BRU connection has a lousy 9+ hour layover in DOH. DOH is not DXB and passengers who have to wait 8 hours in DOH will not be tempted to make such a long layover. When you look at the real numbers, SN kept a healthy 78% market share off all O&D passengers between BRU and KGL in the last year. Biggest competitors are KL followed by ET. QR has sold between Europe and KGL so far 36 tickets... since the beginning of their operation to KGL. IF you ask me, their EBB-KGL stretch must be quiet empty... unless they have a lot of conecting passengers to DXB, Asia or Nort America. But in Europe they are, for the time being, of no significance to/from KGL.

I think that the increase of frequency to KGL by SN is more a reaction towards TK, who will start IST-KGL as from end of May. With 4 daily BRU-IST flights, TK can offer nice connections in IST and this in both directions on the flights to /from KGL. (The same will be applicable for the upcoming IST-FIH flights by the way). Add to this that Turkey has a very liberal visa policy towards citizens from several African nations (for 20 USd you can buy your visa at IST airport upon arrival, without the hassle of applying in advance) and you can see where the danger comes from.

It's not that weird. I don't think KL will have a hard time filling the cargo deck with flowers (if I'm not mistaken Rwanda is developing this business) and other stuff (if I'm not mistaken MP also has a cargo flight to Kigali)... Moreover, I reckon the International Court will generate some traffic for KL and the same for Chinese wishing to visit Rwanda. Moreover, SN lacked aircraft for a higher higher frequency.

BTW they still fly less to KGL (KL serves KGL 6 weekly)

It's seasonal again, the extra flight is only from 1 June until 30 September.

Maybe they saw that SN wasn't giving the market away without fighting. If I'm correct they plan double daily A320/A319 this summer...

Hi,

Like to see what will happen now , I have booked the AP -airone- flight for July ( BRU-VCE-BRU ),
will we get refunded or will we get an iternary to VCE with AZ ?
Already some official info about this? Didn't received any mails about the delay ..

Flight is still the same in 'my booking' but not bookable from now.. on their site..

No mailadress, just a phonenumber in Italy ?.. We'll see..

Airone mailed that they don't see an alternative and will refund !

As a LCC subsidary of AZ guess that this is a real FR threatment as they aren't willing to reroute..with AZ.
Guess I must join Regi in his view on AZ ..

Next time better opt for a promo SN bLight ticket..or even FR !

Or wait for a Brussels Airlines FlyDay promotion at 99 € in b.flex. There was one to Venice two weeks ago...

May we know how much you've paid for the ticket, given even 99€ on Brussels was too expensive?
Now that competition has given in, I dont now if they will put VCE up for promotion now?

I wonder if they will show up in September?
If they can't make this route work in high season when a lot of tourist head to Italy (and for a LCC this is a key target market, not?) how on earth are they going to succeed in autumn and beyond then, when demand is lower?

Hi,

I paid 56 euros all in.

Never mentioned that 99 euros is too expensive !
But.. I just wanted to try airone high density A320 and VCE for a daytrip.. ;)
At 56 euros why not?
But SN had promo's that time similar to 89 or so..
Prefered AP just for new airliner,.. like avgeeks do
And as I already had the 'luck' to get rerouted with SN through LH on an fare of 68 I tought I rerouting on AZ was possible.. so not with AP/AZ so..

So will look for another daytrip, but similar fares for that period will be hard I guess.. or SN promo's offcourse !
Fear July will be a no fly month for me :(

Don't also understand why they delay the flights until after summer/high season ..
A total cancelling of the route should have sounded even more real than this ..
