I don't want to intervene in a political discussion, but I nevertheless have a question.

LVdB is Chairman of the Board, but without an executive role. His duty time must therefore be rather limited. For comparison, I would like to know the salary of Arnaud Feist, who is CEO and spends all of his time for Brussels Airport.

Thievery imho, he should get a decent salary but that is just unbelievable for the role he has to fulfill.

This is of course a shocking example but we all know hundreds of similar case : Belgocontrol, Belgacom, Infrabel, SNCB/NMBS, Distrigaz, BPOST and you name it.
Not to forget that most of them are accumulating public and private mandates, as well as local, regional and federal "cheeses". When you hear that party members are "surprised and shocked"; this is a nice piece of hypocrisy ! (off-topic  )

FWIW, nothing personal against LvdB, but he really is the prototype kind of manager that makes a fortune for basically doing nothing but give some non-telling interviews and to attend a scheduled board meeting where no-braining decisions are simply rubber stamped, yet constantly tells ordinary floor workers they need to be more competitive, hand in some extra legal advantages, be willing to skip the automatic wage corrections to inflation and work a little bit more flexible even, all because times are though and without an extra sacrifice things will allegedly turn badly.

As others have said, there are ample comfortable board seats like this in Belgium, all filled with partyppolitical friends who probably are not able to stand a test in the real world: b.post, Eandis, NMBS/SNCB (even 3 companies thus 3 boards now!), VRT, RTBF, Dexia, Ethias, Belgacom and all the mixed private-public joint ventures are all flocked with such idiots really.
The only requirement is that you're willing to make at least half a milion euro a year (most people don't have that in a life time), doing basically nothing except telling others to take a paycut and work harder... oh, and have the right qualification, meaning being a failed minister or party loyal of some sort!

Back to topic:
So he's leaving for good?
Well, he certainly won't be missed as I genuinely can not remember a single achievement from him.
Oh, I almost forgot, that Low Cost Terminal, right?!
Now that was a job well done, pissing of your most important customer...
Luckily LH and STAR managed to hammer this nonsense deep down into the apron!
That project was indicative of just how out of synch these guys really are, not grasping where the piles of money they earn come from nor how hard it is for somebody to actually first make it!

I don't want to bark with the hounds, but this is not proper to B. only.
It's everywhere :(
I believe the only way to handle this in a democratic way is to make transparent the salaries and extra revenues of managers and board appointees. Cumulative charges for public servants should be restricted.
Just my thoughts..

I believe you know this better than I do...
I didn't follow at all ..
But wasn't the idea of supporting a Low Cost offering at BRU a good idea ?

For all those who shout that these people are paid exagerated wages for doing close to nothing: I challenge you: try to work your way up there and we'll talk again in let's say 3 years to evaluate your carreer progress. Shouldn't be so hard to maintain a fast carreer track as you're all convinced that people like VDB have absolutely no skills. By the way, may I kindly ask on which facts you base these statements?

what bothers me is not the high wages but this "Het loon zou worden toegekend aan een bedrijf om de personenbelastingen te omzeilen"

why not if the man is bringing business to BRU? two questions: what is the salary of those in a similar post in other EU airports? and is he delivering, in other words is he doing his job? if the proposed salary in par with what is paid at similar sized airports in europe, then this discussion should not even take place. The bigger scandal actually is how much of that money is paid to the tax man????

Di Pipo driving a +100.000€ brand new A8L full option, VDB charging 700.000€, you have to admit socialism is in a very weird situation these days. There is practicly no more counterbalance or opposition in society or politics.

If things don't turn around asap, I think we will be seeing an even weirder economical situations in the short term...

I just cannot get who will be paying all these costs in the end. We all know you and me are hardly earning more then ten years ago. I have no problem with people earning 10 or 100 times more than me, I just wonder how all of this will be paid for. Unsustainable I guess.

Well, I kindly invite you to pay your management a "more reasonable" salary, wait which competent profiles you'll be able to attract for that money and then wait for their undoubtedly genious decision making. Is it so hard to understand the following 2 things:

> the fact whether you like/dislike a person says nothing about their competences
> competences have to be rewarded

I am not convinced our BA chairman or CEO's ever were socialist frontrunners...

If they can achieve management success in the coming years, they certainly do earn a piece of the cake, a prime position can also be of short term if success is not on your path.

But competences can be of many different kinds ;)
