Boeing, Qatar Airways Announce Order for Six 777-300ERs

Boeing and Qatar Airways today announced an order for six Boeing 777-300ERs (Extended Range) airplanes at the international 2011 Paris Air Show. The order is valued at $ 1.7 billion at list prices.

As one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, Qatar Airways currently operates 25 Boeing airplanes: eight ultra-long range 777-200LRs (Long Range), 15 777-300ERs and two long-range 777 Freighters.

"We are expanding our international network rapidly and adding new routes and destinations that will extend Qatar Airways' reach across the globe, especially as we aim to open up more non-stop routes to popular and under-served cities around the world," said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways' CEO. "We currently have 25 Boeing 777s in our fleet and its payload and range capability, reliability and economics have made this aircraft the backbone of our long-haul fleet."

"We are extremely pleased to be playing a role in the growth and success of Qatar Airways," said Jim Albaugh, president and chief executive officer, Commercial Airplanes Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "And we are grateful for the confidence and trust that Qatar Airways continues to place in Boeing – and in the 777."

In November 2007, Qatar Airways took delivery of the first of a 32 Boeing 777 order. Exercise of options subsequently increased the order to 40 aircraft of which 15 are pending delivery.

The Boeing 777 family is a complete family of jetliners that is preferred by passengers and airlines around the world. The market-leading 777 family has the ability to fly point-to-point nonstop to bypass crowded and busy hub airports.

This order was previously accounted for on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website as unidentified in 2011.

Good news for the B748!

Boeing today during the Paris Air Show announced orders and commitments for 17 of its 747-8 Intercontinental airplanes. The orders, placed by two undisclosed customers, are valued at a combined $5.4 billion at list prices. One customer has committed to 15 of the new passenger version of the 747-8 while the other placed an order for two.

“These orders for the 747-8 Intercontinental mark a major milestone for the program and demonstrate the market’s need for an airplane of its size and range,” said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “It will play a valuable role in further growing these carriers long-haul route networks.”

The orders bring the 747-8 Intercontinental total backlog to 50 firm aircraft, plus five from a commitment from Air China contingent on Chinese Government approval.

The new 747-8 Intercontinental carries 467 passengers in a three-class configuration. It features a new wing design, an upgraded flight deck, and its interior incorporates features from the 787 Dreamliner, including a new curved, upswept architecture that will give passengers a greater sense of space and comfort while adding more room for personal belongings.

And we could possibly see more. Strong rumours say Cathay Pacific will place a combined order for 15 B777F's and B748F's (unkown how much of each). Of course this is just a rumour, but the CEO of Boeing earlier said he is hopefull to announce a couple of announcements for the B748i and B748F this week. So probably more to come...

As SAS is one of the airlines wich really like to have a mixed fleet they ordered 30 Airbus A320NEO's (after they announced to lease B737NG's) wich will be delivered between 2016 and 2019 with Leap-X engines (CFM).

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... order.html

Another interesting order is for 10 Bombardier Cseries. A undisclosed customer ordered 10 CS100's. Earlier this month Bombardier also announced 10 orders of Braathens (for Malmo Aviation) and 2 for another airline wich want to stay unidentified. Bombardier says both airlines are well known network carriers.
Currently there are 113 Cseries on order. Suprising about this order is that this carrier will be the launch customer of the CS100, altough other airlines already buyed several CS100's (like LX).

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) is about to finalize an order for up to 24 B737-800's (14 new orders, 4 options and 6 convertions from options. These options were part of a deal for up to 60 B738's wich was signed at Farnborough last year) and their first widebody orders for 5 B777-300ER's and 4 B787-9's. Boeing and ALC are finalizing the last details, and as from the moment the order is firmed it will appear on the Orders&deliveries part of the Boeing website.
ALC has also something for Airbus: MOU for 50 Airbus A320neo of wich 14 options, 11 Airbus A330 (both 200 and 300) and 1 regular A320 (delivery 2012).

BTW, I'm quite sure I miss some tings, so please add the orders I forget.

I've forgotten Saudi and GECAS indeed (typicall it are Airbus orders, but I'm not doing it on purpose, it's just that Boeing orders attract me more, sorry)

But the ALC order for 33 Boeings was mentionned in one of my previous posts.

Several industry sources confirm that GECAS plans to announce an order for two B747-8F's wich will bring the total ordered -8F's on 78. GECAS will be the second leasing company to order the B748F, it's not known if these two airplanes are allready planned for a certain airline.

So as said by the CEO of Boeing, interest in the B748 is rising (17 new firm orders for the -8i, 5 pending orders for the -8i for Air China, rumours about a possible Cathay order for more -8F's and 'rumours' about a GECAS order)...finally, altough I doubt the B748 will ever be a big succes.

From Les Echos.fr
___________________________________________________________________________

Sorry, only in French.

Boeing 747-8 Freighter Arrives at Paris After Historic Biofuel Flight
Boeing's new cargo airplane makes its international debut at Paris after the first transatlantic flight of a commercial aircraft powered by sustainable aviation fuel

The Boeing 747-8 Freighter landed at Paris Le Bourget Airport at 5:35 p.m. local time after completing the first transatlantic flight of a large commercial airplane powered on all engines by a sustainable aviation jet fuel.

The airplane, piloted by Boeing pilots Capt. Keith Otsuka and Capt. Rick Braun and Cargolux Capt. Sten Rossby, flew from Everett, Wash., to Le Bourget with all four of its General Electric GEnx-2B engines powered by a blend of 15 percent camelina-based biofuel mixed with 85 percent traditional kerosene Jet A fuel. No changes were made to the airplane, its engines or operating procedures prior to departure. Normal flight parameters were followed and approved in advance by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

The airplane is the fourth of five Boeing commercial airplanes to arrive at the Paris Air Show in 2011. It will be on static display at the Paris Air Show June 21 and 22. It is scheduled to leave the air show the evening of June 22 and fly to Cargolux headquarters at Luxembourg for a two-day visit. Cargolux is scheduled to take delivery of the first 747-8 Freighter to enter service this summer.

Sonaca got a 25 million dollar contract from Boeing to manufacture the "727 bulkhead assembly" of the central fuselage of the Boeing 737 NG.

The work will be carried out, not in Charleroi, but in Wichita (Kansas) plant of Sonaca.
