If the hole is taped over and the pressures inside and outside are equal, the sensor will think everything is ok. Then you start flying, the pressure outside drops, but the pressure inside stays the same. Only then do you get a warning from the sensor.

Perhaps the installation procedure should include a step involving increasing the pressure inside the container and checking if the sensor says there is a difference.

British Airways will be the first airline in the world to own and operate at the same time the B787 and the A380.

On other news, Ethiopian Airlines, which has 10 787s on order, is considering an order for additional Boeing 787s for delivery after 2017. Their fifth 787 will arrive next month in Addis Ababa. Next year they expect four or five additional 787s to arrive.

Isn't China Southern the first one? They have 5 A380's and they got their first 787. You would think they would the the first to actually operate both of them?

True! My mistake. BA is only the first European airline to fly both aircraft, as per their latest press release, which I misread.

Yes that may be true indeed. But in this case they mentionned it in their official press release that they will be the first 'European' airline to operate both aircraft, but (mistakes happen) sn26567 skipped the word "European".

Anyway, still nice for BA to be able to add these two state-of-the-art aircraft within a few days of each other. Tough when they ordered them, that was not the plan I suppose...

Ordering them in the same year doesn't mean they will be delivered in the same year. BA expected the first 787 in 2010 and the first A380 in 2012 (with all deliveries between 2010 and 2014).
So the delays made this summer more special for BA than they could have ever expected in 2007

Btw, about the Paris Air Show. Qatar Airways will send a 787 for static display and Boeing will send one which will also fly from Monday till Friday (but to me it's not clear if it's one of the Boeing aircraft or an undelivered aircraft of an airline, different sources talk about different things).

The A350 uses the XWB engine, that's a different series, though having quite some things in common with the Trent 1000. RR is also working on the Trent 1000-TEN for the 787, which will have even more in common (new technology that was developed for the XWB will be incorporated in that new Trent 1000 version).

Oh, now I also think of BA. The recently announced the conversion of 18 options for the 787, leaving open the exact version.

That seems like Singapore Airlines 30 and British Airways (at least) 18. Still curious about United Airlines and ALC was always a BIG supporter of the 787-10, so no suprise they are on the first row as well.

Btw, some years ago, EK was also one of the demanding airlines for the 787-10 (calling the others too small), but recently their focus seems to have shifted to the A350 for the smaller widebodies and the 777X for the bigger ones.

As expected, Boeing is going to increase production of the 787 beyond the 10/month which is planned for the end of this year. To accomodate increasing demand and especially to accomodate the new version, they'll increase production towards 14/month in 2015.

Originaly 10/month was planned for just one FAL in Everett, currently this 10/month will be shared between Everett, Charleston and an extra surge line in Everett (which is important to get the 787-9 introduced in the final assembly). So 14/month, even with just the main line in Everett and the one in Charleston, should be feasible (the surge line is a 'temporary solution').
