The 3rd and final test aircraft of the 787-9 is up in the air for its first test flight.
http://nl.flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE789

The aircraft is in a complete white paint, so it remains a question if they plan to do something special with it or instead decided not to spend any useless recources on a 3rd full paint.
But anyway, with 3 aircraft up and flying, the test program should really start to progress now. They have performed about 200 flight hours so far in two months (first flight of ZB001 was on September 17th, followed by ZB002 earlier this month (7/11))

ZB021 and not ZB003?

I must say I don't completly understand the ZA (788) or ZB (789) numbering of Boeing. The 788 started quite logic with ZA001 until ZA006 for all six test aircraft, but the following aircraft often seemed to have random numbers (see the link to the production list below), though I'm sure there is some logic in it for Boeing.
Line numbers are more logical xp

btw, when looking at the production list, you can also see that the undelivered early 787's are assigned to Lion Air and Transaero, with two of them still unknown. These are either in storage (for years already now) or in the EMC undergoing extensive rework. Initial clients for these aircraft were ANA, LAN and Royal Air Maroc (they receive new aircraft instead, which was known for a while already, but for a long time it remained a question to which airlines the older ones would go). The latest of these "terrible teens" will not be delivered until 2015.

Another problem for the dreamliner (and the 747-8).

At least it's not an aircraft specific problem but rather an engine specific problem this time.

Very true, but is another problem the 787 can miss.

For sure it is, but if it was an aircraft specific problem it would be another reason to blame Boeing. But in the end, the influenced airlines and passengers are still the victims of course...

As far as I understood the conditions where the thrust reductions occurred are very rare and because they are so rare not much is known about it yet. So GE and Boeing are a bit in the dark at the moment. The B748 seems to be suffering more, it is guessed because of the bleed systems which are not present in the B788. Hopefully the software changes will bring a solution

Cool fact: all three Boeing 787-9s were in the air at the same time today. Here they are at Boeing Field earlier in the day:

Air Canada announced its initial international routes to be operated with their 787 aircraft. Flights from Toronto to London Heathrow (12 per week) and Zurich (6 per week) will be launched on the first of May, they will be operated until the end of June after which AC will launch the daily Toronto-Tel Aviv flights on the 787 on the first of July.

http://airlineroute.net/2013/12/04/ac-787-s14update1/

The seat configuration: 20 in Executive First (business class), 21 in Premium Economy and 210 Economy seats. You can discover their interior on their dedicated website:
http://787.aircanada.com/en

I must say I really like their interior, seems like a great usage of colors and materials.

Once both SN and AC are ready for it, I wouldn't be suprised to see AC operating Toronto-Brussels with the 787 (AC already hinted at it as a possible future 787 route), with SN taking over BRU-Montreal.

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Poland's LOT was grounded in Chicago on Friday after strong winds for more than 10 hours on a flight from Warsaw damaged its spoiler.

The plane had been due to land back in Warsaw this Friday morning.

Boeing received TIA (Type Inspection Authorization) by the FAA on the first two 787-9 test aircraft, soon to be followed by the 3rd aircraft. This means as from now FAA staff can go on board and gatter the required data for certification, so this can be seen as the start of the actual flight certification fase (after finishing flutter testing).

The 3 787-9's have finished about 100 test missions and 285 flight hours.

Flight Global Headline: Air India dismisses 787 grounding reports (see: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articl ... ts-394046/)

Story:

Air India has dismissed media reports that its Boeing 787 fleet was grounded recently for a software upgrade.

An Air India spokesman confirms that the software of its Boeing 787s has been in the process of being upgraded since 1 December, but clarifies that the work did not require the grounding of the entire fleet.

“When the aircraft go for checks, they get the software upgrade,” he says.

He adds that the upgrade is routine, and not specific to Air India’s 787 fleet. For each aircraft, the upgrade takes three to four days, he says.

“We hope to complete the upgrade soon,” he adds.

Erroneous reports about a grounding followed comments by minister of state for civil aviation Shri KC Venugopal to India’s parliament on 10 December that the fleet had been grounded for 10 days from 1 December for the software upgrading work.

Venugopal stated that the “modification is being sequentially carried out on each Dreamliner aircraft during a 10-day maintenance grounding with effect from 1 December 2013.”

Flight tracking website FlightAware shows that Air India 787s were, indeed, operational during 1-10 December. According to Flightglobal’s Ascend online database, Air India operates 11 787-8 aircraft, with another 16 on order.

Thanks for sharing that link.
Once someone says 787 and grounding in one sentence, people immediatly think they are actually all grounded until the software updates are done and that its the only reason for them to be on the ground... Some reasonable thinking should be enough to know that isn't the case.

In Boeing's latest orders oversight, they added 18 for British Airways. BA previously announced 12 787-10's, so we can assume they are firmed now, but the other 6 are new to me.

VT-ANJ came back from Mumbai after the software update and some other maintenance and landed in Delhi with a cracked windshield and damaged landing gear...not a good return to service. The landing gear was damaged due to foreign objects, the windshied cracked without a 'good' reason.

Norwegian will lease two additional Dreamliners. As from 2016 they'll lease two 787-9 aircraft from MG Aviation. These are in addition to the earlier ordered eight 787-8's of which 3 are delivered.
