Antwerp Airport also had it's fair part from thunderstorms this week. On Tuesday night, there was a lightning strike on the heli path, causing minor damage. A general power failure then has put out runway lights, and ILS was also out of order. But as there were no incoming or outcoming flights, there were no divertions.

The Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad writes: "...

A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N156DL performing flight DL-81 from Brussels to Atlanta, was enroute at FL340 about 85nm northeast of Gander (Canada) when the crew reported an engine (CF6) problem and decided to divert to Gander. The crew subsequently reported they needed to shut the right hand engine down. The aircraft continued for a safe landing in Gander about 45 minutes later.

A Boeing 737-600 from Scandinavian Airlines, flight SK4744 with departure this morning 29/08/11 at 11:05 destination Oslo had to stay immobilized on the parking place (next to where the Etiopian is always parked) short after it left for departure. Reason was that an extra inside sucurity check was requested by the pilot. Two police cars and one special "airport security team" came to check to plane. One of the passengers had an "unusual" or "strange" behaviour during boarding as on the plane itself. Myself, I was on this plane. I saw this person discussing in the cockpit before departure although he was seated on one of the last rows of the plane. Information was not clear and most information was only given in Norvegian language. Some Norvegian passenger translated me te information. All people had to leave the plane and wait in a bus until the moment we were allowed to enter again the plane. This "suspicious" person was checked thoroughly by the police (papers, identy, take out shoes, sweather, belt etc... on the tarmac next to the plane while all the other passenger could observe this). The police arrested this person and later on the pilot confirmed or reassured the passenger that this person wouldn't join us for the flight. People remained calm although this situation was quite strange as it seemed like there was "a kind of a terrorist" on board... Finaly the plane left with more than one hour delay.

SN2811 from BRU to Prague, ETD 15h10, has left BRU al 15h13 and apparently landed back in BRU at 15h55.

The flight is now announced as cancelled, and the return flight SN2812 PRG-BRU is now also cancelled.

SN3766, the incoming flight from Palma de Mallorca, has been diverted to LGG.

(ETA in BRU was 23h50).

There were thunderstorms above ANR around that time. Also at/near BRU?

On Saturday 10 September 2011, a Ryanair flight from Charleroi to Finland had to make an emergency landing in Sweden (= if we accept that shutting down one engine on a B737-800 is an emergency).

Does anybody have some more details about the power outage at BRU today?

Vueling Airlines flight VY8988 from Barcelona (BCN) to Brussels (BRU) had a Squawk 7700 (general emergency) one hour ago in the neighbourhood of Tours. The aircraft (Airbus A320-214 registered EC-KRH) descended to FL 230 and continued at that altitude all the way to BRU.

Several news media report about an incident at LGG last Friday: "an aircraft" was "in trouble", making it "impossible to land". There is not a simple remark about airline or route: a (press) hoax probably?

The weather is very fine in Antwerp (sunny, no wind), but there are some 15 flights delayed at nearby BRU.

Is it weather related - busy airport - or just coincidence?
