On a side note: This topic was also mentioned in yesterdays StuBru program "One Night Stand" (23h pm - 01h am). A caller asked if somebody knew whose "Jumbojet" had flown into BRU being escorted by 4 fighter planes. It took a while before the right answer came up. Some redcap called in and explained it was an A310 of BAF. Another caller mentioned "www.luchtzak.be" for more information. :D

Have a nice weekend!

As we're a bit in the press now, we might have to watch more our writings and insults... damned!

Cheers,

was this not the A310 that had continuous technical problems? And was it not the airplane with some specific features, also different engines, which would make it very unattractive to send to Dresden for a cargo make over ? As far as I remember, there is a spare part avaiability problem with this specific A310.
We had some messages some years ago about this specific airplane.
Specialists please inform.

As far as I remember the problem is with the engines. These are Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4E1. Most A310's use PW4000's or GE CF6-80's. Not many A310-222 and -322's were built. Six A310-322's and thirty-two A310-222's were built. And of those, not many are flying. All 6 A310-322's have been scrapped or stored. Of the A310-222 there are still a few flying: 1 with Jordan Aviation, and less then 10 with FedEx. And FedEx has started storing and scrapping the -222's.

I know the JT9D is related to the PW4000. But I'm not sure if there is any part commonality. The only way I see these aircraft leaving is as parts or as scrap, unfortunately. Off course, I hope I'm wrong.
