If money is the issue, they'd have done OO-SFH in the same style as OO-SFF, all white belly with only the b-tail and name...

I guess it's going to be repainted somewhere else. After all it's still the basic CX-scheme with a white tail.

OO-SFU left Brussels, heading to Pinal Air Park in Arizona, to be scrapped.

Post by Belgaviation »

Hi,

Could anybody provide an update on the SN's A330 fleet after the departure of OO-SFU to the States for scrapping?
Thanks

Why did SFU go first?
It was the youngest of the 3 remaining A330-200's.
But I guess it had the highest number of flight hours and cycles?

Or shortest lease period left. That would make it the cheapest to get rid off.

Regarding the medium haul fleet, I wonder how SN will proceed : will they put on hold the A320s over the A319s?

Difficult question as it is too early to guess how traffic will resume when the corona crisis will be over. But I guess it will be more or less like at the beginning of SN Brussels Airlines (or rater DAT) after the bankruptcy of Sabena. The airline started with only small Avro RJ85 and RJ100 aircraft. As traffic grew, they added 3 A319s, and then more of the same, and only much later the A320s. One can imagine a similar scenario at the end of the crisis.

Hi,

Then ... cheap leased fast filling aircraft...

But now.. no more 'small' aircraft, no cheap leases...
All cheap? small leases were send away..

So level field is quite different after the crisis...
Not a big issue of economy resumes quickly..
Guess a big chunk of A320 must leave asap...

But if economy won't return quickly.. :/
Travel bans extended until july/August... Spain closed for months... ??
Luckily oil is cheap enough to heal quicker...

No such thing of a big return to normal I guess.. :/

New types flown 2020 : A321neo,B781
New types planned : E140

In that way, do you mean that brussels airlines could retain all of their 319s and axe mostly their 320s ?

I have the same thought. The A320 is too big. Keep only a few of them for routes like Tel Aviv.
The A319 is more then big enough as the demand in the next months, and maybe full year, will be low.

Starting smaller, smaller airplanes and grow in future

I will even repeat my own words of a couple of months ago. The SN fleet is missing a small airplane for the thinner routes. OK, this will be not for soon as no money, reboot, etc.

But in a few years it would be a really good idea to have the A220-100 in the fleet. Max 100 pax. Good for thinner routes and no need to have expensive lease contracts like City jet.

Besides this, the backbone with the A319 end a few A330 for dense routes.

This to keep it in the Airbus family and lower costs.

But like I said, in a few years
