For the moment it's still in HG41, engine nr.1 off.
Guess will be not soon it will leave

NK is an Aeroflot machine, and NL and NK are coming from Air Berlin.

Please always read carefull what is written ;)

I my original post (which came from Airliners.net) it was not said that the first 'new' A330 would enter in service early 2018, but that they would arrive in BRU in January, March 2018 .... In any case they would need new interiors, etc. So entrance into service can only be beginning of April or so ... But airplanes arriving and airplanes entering into service are two different things.

So the only discussion/confusion (and as far as I am concerned no clear answer from anyone yet) is when the first of the 7 'new' A330 would enter into service: is it already in Summer 2018 or only late 2018?

In case it would be e.g. late Spring then they can add more frequencies and/or new routes in Summer 2018. Since they announced already additional flights to Eastern Africa (+2/w) I thought this was the confirmation of the Summer 2018 scenario. However, it is perfectly possible that they are too busy with the launch of two daily connections from Dusseldorf and that the additional flight from BRU have to wait a bit, e.g. start only in Autumn 2018.

In both case we still have to be patient I am afraid ;)

And if we want the full picture we need also when the leasing contract of each of their current birds expire. Does anyone have these? If we have this information we can start defining many scenarios :D

A related question: do they need to perform 'maintenance' or other things prior to return the 'old' birds to the lessor?

It depends on what's agreed on in the contract, without seeing the contract that's something hard to know.

They might remove the interior and install the original interior but since all planes are getting a new interior there's not to much value in keeping the current interior in stock.

They might perform heavy maintenance but they might also deliver it as is to the lessor.

Again, all depends on what's stipulated in the contract... But since these are amongst the oldest A330's in the world I doubt there's any resale value for these birds except for scrap value so I think the chances are high they'll be scrapped quickly once they have been returned to the lessor. Since they don't have much value there's no reason to send them somewhere for long time storage unless Airbus wants one or more of these birds back to study how they performed during their lifetime?

The first one will enter service before the 2018 summer season as an ops spare aircraft. It will not yet get a new interior straight away as the others will. The interior of the first one will be done after the last one has entered service early 2020.

Interesting discussion: any news on what bru.air entends to do with 4 additional A320 next year, because that's a serious capacity increase, taking into account there are no more AVRO jets to replace?
Or are they going to replace older/smaller A319 with them?
Thank you.

There are all the summer destination of Thomas Cook like Ohrid, Tivat, Gerona, Reus, Menorca, the Greek island etc... plus of course the organic growth of Brussels Airlines

If SN intended to use 11 aircraft at the same time in BRU next year, can the growth of the long-haul network from BRU next spring or summer be considered ?
Among other factors, surely depending from the end of the leasing contracts of the older A330 ?
Any information about the end of these contracts ? Thanks.
Cheers

Regarding the A319/A320 I think they really need the additional aircraft since they take over many (all) summer destinations of TC. So in summer that is more than the 2 additional planes + the organic (own) growth ...

I would rather say they need some special 'arrangements' with other companies to fill the gap and also EW to help them out e.g. on the Berlin-Brussels route.

I would also not be surprised that they use their A330 (some of the new ones) to fly to European routes such as 1) Tenerife, 2) Heraklion and ...

Yes I know I have a lot of imagination, but still I think it is possible :D

Why not? An A330 in an all-economy configuration could be useful: today there were 2 SN flights to Marsa Alam and 2 to Hurghada; surely no business class pax on those. :)

Look's like the new narrow bodies joing the fleet are A320 only so my guess is they'll only aquire A320 or even A321 from AB for the busy summer routes while they can use it for TLV during winter
