Then some cargo will have to be left on the tarmac...

Why SIN-TLS-BRU : to do the painting in TLS?StijnBRU wrote:9V-STI will never leave SIN in SQ livery. 2 options, or we paint them in SIN in SN colours, or SIN-TLS-BRU.
Nice to see one of our birds in BRU, but very strange from SN to take an A330 with PW engines, when you have an entire fleet with GE engines...
Maybe a good opportunity to paint it in Star Alliance colours?
Doesn't 9V-STI have RR engines ?

I believe there is a mixup.Duke wrote:Doesn't 9V-STI have RR engines ?StijnBRU wrote: Nice to see one of our birds in BRU, but very strange from SN to take an A330 with PW engines, when you have an entire fleet with GE engines...
9V-STI has RR engines.
In the current SN fleet, there are 3 GE's (SFM/N/O) and 5 PW's (SFV/W/Y/Z/U).
Yes, this means there will be 3 engine types in the fleet and that will generate extra workload for flight ops and maintenance. On the other hand, SFM/N/O are nearing the end of their career, so in a few years I gues they'll be back to two engine types (PW and RR). Furthermore, both LH and LX's A330's are all RR, so it will be more convenient to find spares for RR's.
And if (and I mean IF) SN would someday consider buying factory-new planes, RR is the exclusive engine manufacturer for both A330neo and A350. Granted, it's not the exact same engine type, but the same manufacturer means the same design philosophy and a lot of the same components.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
After OO-SNG, OO-SNA is also back to the operation with the 180 seat configuration, OO-SNB is now in PRG for retrofit.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I would hazard a guess that it's safe to say that the GE engines will start to disappear on the A330 fleet at SN. It may of course still take a while, but this is of course not something an airline can do overnight. The training of engineers and pilots, getting procedures up and running,... It's quite a bit of work.
On a related note, does anybody know whether they will be able to use the new engine type on ETOPS routes right away, or will they have to through a test period of sorts?

As far as I know, it will take up to 6 months to get the RR certified for ETOPS ops.KriVa wrote:On a related note, does anybody know whether they will be able to use the new engine type on ETOPS routes right away, or will they have to through a test period of sorts?
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Anyway, OO-SFX is will be operating to Africa only on the route with lot of cargo
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
With fuel prices where they are, SN should consider leasing a dozen CRJ200's or ERJ145 to trial new regional destinations and support summer season operations.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I would love to see that happen!Flanker2 wrote:With fuel prices where they are, SN should consider leasing a dozen CRJ200's or ERJ145 to trial new regional destinations and support summer season operations.
