De-icing accident: Turkish Airlines A343 at IST (24/01/10)
A Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300, flight TK-60 (scheduled departure Jan 23rd) from Istanbul Ataturk (Turkey) to Bangkok (Thailand) with 237 passengers, was preparing for departure in heavy snowfall with about 2.5 hours delay at about 02:00L (00:00Z). After de-icing was finished, the airplane started to move, but the wing hit a de-icing hydraulic lift throwing the vehicle over, which fell onto the de-icing assistant and hit the operator of the vehicle. Emergency services were not able to help the assistant anymore, but had to pronounce the assistant dead. The operator received minor injuries. A replacement Airbus A340-300 departed Istanbul at 09:15L.
