UUURGH, what's the deal with the blue tail?! None of the other "white goods" of the 15th wing sport a blue tail, why this one? I guess I'll have a look on my way to work to see whether the tarmac holds the weight

Anyway, nice to have an airworthy army widebody in the fleet again!

I actually like it but love to see more pictures. ;)

Btw: The tarmac is not a problem at Melsbroek, planes that are way more heavy have been there before, so no need to worry about that!

Bralo20,

Agree about your statement on the tarmac at Melsbroek however, saying that the tarmac can handle the A333 because heavier aircraft have parked there in the past is a little "kort door de bocht". You want to consider more than just the weight of the airplane. The relevant variable to take into consideration is the pressure per square inch which means that besides the aircraft weight you also need to know the total surface of the undercarriage that is in contact with the tarmac. The main undercarriage of the 330 consists of 2 bogeys of 4 wheels each.

What an awfully ugly bird. Couldn't they have made the logo on the tail smaller so it coulf fit completely on the tail? And what about the Belgian flag on top of the fuselage?

Jaw dropping mixing of styles. And what about the red line on top out of all weird ideas? And where is the black part of our dear flag on those winglets? Indeed it would be nice to have a full logo on the tail as well.

Is this for real?

I like it very much, the incomplete logo on the tail looks modern and the Belgian flags on the tiny winglets are also great but who the hell invented the colors on top of the plane???

It really is a beautifull plane. It is standing today on the apron in Melsbroek. Until 15.00H they were doing all sorts off test (engine tests also).

Maybe it is a bit to modern for an goverment airplane. But I like it, why should there be a full logo on the tail, that would make it ugly you now.

Homo A.,
You must have been very attentive to re-invent all by yourself what was already posted in this very same thread on 25th October!

Look just a little bit closer...that's right, there it is! You have to look at the right (left actually) side off course!

Oops !
Sorry for that Jan.

I've been out for a while and missed your post. Guess I had the same reaction as yours when I saw the pic today.

So, anybody any idea as to why this BAF title?

Tks,

Fair enough, Homo A, similar shortseeings happened to my humble self, don't worry!

As to the "why" : I don't have any idea, can only suspect good intentions on the supplier's side and incomprehensible lack of professionalism at the clients'

[[edited afterthought: what Belgian MP is going to ask WHY of our Minister of Defence? Just curious, both of the questioner and for the answer!]]

No, that would make it look decent. It's a government plane, it doens't have to look stylish or trendy, it has to look decent.

And then we have the tricolore on the roof (you see a small stripe of yellow), what's up with that? It makes this plane look like it's colored by an infant... Whoever is responsible for the colors of this plane, should get fired!

Imagine this plane standing next to Air Force One, Obama would probably choke in his coffee when he sees it pulling up next to him.

Or any of these planes which look far better then the pride of the Belgian Air Force:

It actually reminds me more of these colors:

Indeed what is up with that scheme? The lessor thought because we lease it that cheap we make it look cheap? C'mon even a child can do better than that.

Well, our two big neighbours are keeping their A310s for their armed forces, while we are throwing them to the garbage! Are we so much better?

Interesting to note that our A330 keeps its CS civilian Portuguese registration. Why not a new military registration? (even though I know that it is only on lease)

You know as well as I do that no two airplanes can be compared that easily. Our A310's are an operational nightmare...I don't know the situation for for instance germany.
