Icelandair will start services to and from Brussels in June 2010. Two flights a week, on Mondays and Fridays are planned.
Icelandair CEO, Birkir Hólm Guðnason, says Icelandair has considered the route for a long time. "We have often looked at a Brussels service as the city is a major business and political center. This spring and summer we have been meeting with authorities and prospective business partners in Brussels. Increased cooperation and transaction between Iceland and Brussel brings an opportunity to start. General tourism is never the less the foundation for the route, both traffic to and from Iceland, and also those travelling between Brussels and our destinations in the U.S. and Canada", says Birkir Hólm Guðnason.
Icelandair currently serves 25 destinations, 18 in Europe and 7 in North America through its hub in Iceland.
Iceland needs the EU very much at this time. Iceland is almost bankrupt. So they need the new travellers.
With almost two flights a week they don't take any risk.
Indeed, the Boeing 757-200 with winglets will be sent to Brussels. Schedule has been released; service starts 04JUN10. Unfortunately, this service does not connect well to FI's US schedule. Outbound connections of 17 to 18 hours and inbound over 11 hours.
Bad hours?! Great hours!
On your stopover to JFK you will have enough time to visit the famous Blue Lagoon!
You can't book flights right now I checked on their website,
any change of nice reductions/starting flights promotions!
Would be nice to go there for a few days! ( when it's cheap flying haha)!
